I have a new Mossberg 835 camo turkey model and I have installed a Knoxx (blackhawk) recoil reducing stock and wanted to add the Knoxx forearm. I know I need the Houge forearm nut, but it looks like the OEM forearm is pinned to the action bars? How do I remove the forearm? The pin ain't coming out or at least I haven't been able to move it yet.

If there's no nut on the front end around the mag tube, then you have one of those one piece Mav 88 type forearms that can't be changed as is. To mount your Knoxx forearm, you'll need to switch your part out for a Mossy 500 action slide tube with a nut.

Why do you need the Hogue adapter for that forearm, though? Won't the Knoxx fit the 7 5/8" action slide tube?

This is the exact model I have.

First unscrew the cap. Second remove the barrel. Then pinch the two rods/bars coming out of the pump handle and slide forward. I believe that is how i removed mine. Good luck. Also might try their website and look for a manual.

Sorry I have never tried to remove mine, but I am curious, how do you like the new stock? Is it effective at cutting recoil?

To remove the original forearm entirely from the gun, first open the slide half way to unlock the barrel/bolt....you then unscrew the takedown cap on the front of the mag tube....you then slip the barrel off. Next, if you can look into the front end of the forearm and see a steel ring with two notches on opposite sides,

pix919572015.gif it's the black ring right at the front of the forearm plastic. If you see that, unscrew it. The forearm will then slide right off the slide action tube.

If you *don't* have a nut and your forearm is riveted directly to the plastic forearm, you need to strip the gun down to the bolt carrier and bolt step and the action bars will be released from the receiver. The entire forearm action tube will slide off the front. If you need to replace your slide action tube with an aftermarket part, this is the step where you do so.

If that's not what you're asking, please be a bit more specific.

Mine does not have the nut on the front of the forearm.

I can take the forearm and action bars off, but I can't get the forearm off the slide action.

What you're missing her gtg is that you can't separate the forearm from the action bars on your model because they are pinned together as a unit. That is why everyone asked you if there was a circular nut at the end of the forearm. To install the Knoxx forend, you will need to purchase a new action slide assembly for a 500, to which you can install your Knoxx unit and then install the new components into your receiver.

This is the part. Though this one appears to be the current version short one. If it's the 6 3/4" as it appears to be, it'll be too short for the Knoxx (Hogue) forearm, then you'd need the adapter nut mentioned earlier. If it's the earlier 7 5/8", it'll fit without the adapter. If you bid on that, send the guy an email and ask him to measure it.

Be safe.

So the action slide tube assembly that fits on a 500 will work on an 835?

Gtg, I'm glad you asked that, bud! Yes, it *can* work on the 835 but only with short base forearm furniture. The bars are a hair shorter than the 500 so the forearm tube fit *really* close to the receiver. I had to trim a synthetic corncob forearm to get it to fit for a customer a few years ago.

http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=47010 <<<<====== That's the right one. Should fit perfect without the adapter. Best price I can find, too.

We had another long time poster here in the forum recently mounting that same Hogue on his 590 I think it was. It took days to finally get the right tube and the nut and all. He had to slightly open the front end of his to get it to fit properly, too, if I recall.

AcceptableUserName is the guy. Do a search on his posts for the Hogue and read over them before you get started. Save yourself some cussing. Heck, he'll probably see this post. Give him a shout.

Be safe, sir.

Thanks man for all the help. I have an old Revelation 500 shotgun made by Mossberg for Western Auto. I wonder if that slide action asm would work?

I'll search for AcceptableUserName.

Thanks again.
