Help I.D. my Colt Series 70....

Have a Colt Mk IV / Series 70 Gov't Model I purchased some years ago....tried to look up the Serial No. but can seem to find any prefix letter "A" or B for that matter.....very unusual.....any help appreciated.

Serial No. A 70B3XXXX

My Colt guide, by Larry Hacker, indicates 1982....

Is that right....? with those Letters in the number ?

I believe the A is an indicator that they slipped up and assigned a duplicate serial number and added the letter to make them distinct.

The 70B is the standard Colt serial number prefix for that period.

Wow.....couldn't find that anywhere...not even on Colt's listing.
