Help identify pistol

Years ago, my grandfather has a 22 pistol, with an extra magnum cylinder. It had black plastic grips with a horse design on it in a small circle. I believe that it was da/sa (I believe). I remember that you had to pull the hammer back part way, open the gate to load and unload it. it has long since disappeared. Could any one tell me the model and if it is still around?

It could have been a Colt Frontier Scout or one of several variations over the years. I think the Peacemaker and Frontier Scout had hard rubber horsie grips. It might have been a copy with the horse moved enough to make a difference from the Colt trademark.

If it was DA, then it was NOT a Colt; might have been a High Standard Double Nine.

Colt is not making .22s any more, High Standard is gone.

The Heritage Roughrider is a cheap copy of the Colt, the Ruger Single Six LOOKS a lot like a Colt but is mechanically redesigned and very strong.
