It is now midnight EST, and I have drywall job scheduled to start @ 6:00AM.. Ar 15.sounds nice I have heard good things about Rock River also.. I will check out the other links posted.. But not tonight.. time 4 sleep.. I will check back with you guy's tomorrow eve..EST ( I live in Pa) remember while I am not new to guns or reloading; this will be my first tactical weapon.. ( This will not be a case Queen) Thanks 4 your help.. Dave

I think they're going to have a hell of a hard time outright banning the run of the mill AR-15. They're everywhere!

Maybe make a move for a federal ban on 50BMGs or more and more restrictions on ammo. If I had 1800 to spend, I'd definitely get an AR lower, a bohica 50 upper, a donation to the NRA and GOA, and plenty of ammo.

If accuracy is a prime concern check out White Oak. Maybe just buy two good lowers and two Del-Ton rifle kits, some assembley required.

Isn't it ironic how gun hating politicians actually inspire the possession if firearms. They're mere hatred of them will help foster sales. I love it.

re: Zombie Stopper

It isn't the tool, it's the one that wields it. Save some budget for training.

I've had good luck with both Bushmaster & Rock River. RRA may be the slightly better value depending on your location.

As a point of reference, my "Zombie Stopper"= Bushmaster Superlite with:
EOTech-N
Yankee Hill Quad-Rail
Surefire 6P mounted in Leupold QRW Ring
SOG Armory Vertical Foregrip
Jard Drop-In Trigger with 3# Spring
Hogue Grip
Custom Tactical Latch
ACE LTD Fixed Skeleton Stock

I can get 2" at 100M if I do my part (old eyes and 1MOA dot aren't the greatest combination), and I've done .14 splits with it on a CQB course. It's a good little rifle.

I primarily use the C Products Mag's w/Anti-Tilt Followers (both 20's & 30's) and I also like the PMAG from Magpul as a High Reliability mag'.

I also like to cinch the mag's for Rapid Reloads...keeps everything right there at the gun, at least for reload #1.

Loads can make a difference too. I load my own. With a diligently loaded practice round (Winchester FMJBT 55gr which is hardly a match bullet) with Trimmed Cases, my nephew put pairs in one hole with his RRA Coyote at both 50M and 100M. .5gr down from the high end with W748 and I have an affordable, surprisingly accurate, wear friendly practice load...something else to consider.

BUT...it's not the tool(s). Practice, practice, practice...and those old Zombies won't stand a chance.

God willing, you'll never have to find out.

Safe Shooting,

CZ52'
p.s. Nothing wrong with your 870 either as Zombie terminator...

DPMS Sweet Sixteen or Low Pro Classic. 16" Heavy barrel (still small and light). I have the Low Pro Classic that I fitted with the Hoque carbine length floating handguard and soft grip (75 total), DPMS gas block with rails and DPMS removable rear and fold down front sight. More than capable of head shots to 250 with the open sights. About $800 total investment in a nice shooting gun. If you want minute of eye socket accuracy a good set of optics is a must. If you want it ready to go out the box the Sweet sixteen comes with everything but the sights for a few hundred more. More or less a varmint rifle.

I forget who said it, but it was about "assault weapons"...
"If you want to sell something to the American people, tell them they can't have it."

It's so true.

About the Colt-I've never handled an AR-15 (or any rifle or handgun actually), so I can't really argue with real-life experience.
Bottom line is nerf, go to your local gun monger's and handle a few. Tell us what you like.

I just started doing about the same thing (building an AR) and for about the same reason. So far i have an RRA lower with a parts kits from the same that i just put together a few days ago, and my A2 stock should be in soon. I think im going to top it with an RRA mid length upper in .223. Maybe a few more uppers later on.

new member daniel schwindt.......THAT was hillarious !!! welcome the the high road !!:D

Oh you know what be real cool?

Buy the Knight's Armament 12 ga. Master Key underbarrel shotgun. Sure it's an AOW, but that would be an utterly devastating backup in case you run out of ammo with a zombie rushing you at close range. No time to draw a pistol? Hit him with buckshot.

Or get a 37mm flare-launcher--it's not even considered a firearm.

Or, you could go all the way and get a 40mm grenade launcher...

Thanks MIL-DOT! I need to finish up with my psl so I can start putting together my zombie stopper.

O.K. folks; I have spent a little of my hard earned cash on an Bushmaster Y2K Limited edition AR 15.!.!.! Thank God For Gun Broker .. This was mfg. and in storage since 1999.. When it gets to my house no more storage !!! Thanks for all your help.. DS

You will never be able to buy/build an assault rifle for $1800. A semi automatic rifle maybe, but assault rifle prices are way way up there.

This should stop even Zombies with "the rage"

Having just seen "28 Weeks Later" last night, I thought I would snap a pic of my latest Zombie stopper. .50 Beowulf on a Bushmaster XM15 lower with 6-pos stock. ( not a good idea to use short buffer and spring on this caliber) It has all the recoil of a good hunting rifle at this point so I am buliding a dedicated lower for it with ACE Skeleton fixed stock and 2X buffer spring to tame it a little. This caliber has more energy than 7mm Magnum at the muzzle and still carries almost 1000 lbs of energy at 300 yds. The bore is like a shotgun to look at!

For the kind of money you are willing to spend you can get a very decent 5.56 AR15 rifle there are many good choices among those already listed.

Research your options and plan out your purchase if you shop wisely you can have a well balanced and thought out practical package.

Options to consider are the flat top model it allows more options and advantages including lower scope mounting than the standard model.

Yankee Hill Manufacturing A.R.M.S. & GG&G all make good back up iron sights (BUIS)

Zeiss Z Point Eotech and Aimpoint are all good reflex sights

The ACOG TA11 and TA31 are good solid combat scopes if you want to spend that much (they can cost more than the rifle though:eek:) check AR.15.com or e bay for deals on used ones.

A Leupold VXII 1-4X (inexpensive) or 1.5-5X is a good choice as is a Trijicon TR-21 they offer both eyes open for close range fast and furious Zombie shooting but some level of magnification for target identification and engagement at longer ranges than the red dot or reflex sights.
Low power variable scopes offer both close range speed and medium range precision for less $ than an ACOG and about the same $ as an Eotech or Aimpoint with mounts.

A good .22 LR conversion kit allows cheap practice or if the budget is tight a few sub-caliber .22LR chamber inserts go a long way for small critters or plinking and practice.

Spare parts and magazines are a must as is a good case and cleaning gear (one piece dewey rod for example)

And last of all any rifle is a club without ammunition and the AR15 is not that great of a club!
