I'm looking for something that will move me into major power factor while meeting the following requirements...

Same trigger pull for every shot
Fairly/very ambi-friendly from the box
.40's are preferred because of ammunition costs
Guns which are easy to find used/private sale are preferred, but not necessary
Should be available used in exc condition for less than $550

Right now, I'm looking at XD-40's and Glocks (HK USPs being probably out of the price range)... which raises the question of "service" or "tactical" barrel length?

I already have a service-size pistol, and I'm still a few years from a situation where I'll CCW on a regular basis, so the only thing that size affects from my perspective is that subjective factor of "shootability"... and my inclination on that is towards a bigger gun (longer sight radius and more mass to dampen recoil).

I would do a Glock 35, and a KKM drop in 9mm barrel.

Major power factor in USPSA Production doesn't help, you are scored minor no matter what. The 9mm barrel will let you shoot cheap 9mm for practice and USPSA matches, the 40 barrel will make the 165 you need for IDPA.

You do not need PF 165 for a .40 in IDPA, it shoots with the 9mm in all circumstances. Handloaders say a light .40 is softer to shoot than 9mm. Caliber conversions are not allowed in IDPA.

Get a 9mm for USPSA Production (or IDPA Stock Service Pistol.)

I know people who prefer G17 to G34, they prefer the handling to the extra sight radius. It is all subjective by that point.

What is your "service-size pistol?" Have you shot it for USPSA? If not, shoot it in competition for a year before you buy a match gun. You will have a lot better idea what is needed and some money saved up.

Ahhh, I shoot a Glock 34 and keep losing to a guy with a Springfield XD Tactical so buy the XD Tactical in 9mm!:cuss:

Is it the gun or the shooter? Only a poor craftsman blames his tools.
