My dad gave me a 6mm bolt action rifle back in January and I can't find anything online about this gun!

One marking "6MM REM." Then "T0165". Lastly "(FN symbol) ACTION- MADE IN BELGIUM". It has a wood stock with a cheek rest.

So I started searching online to try to figure out a model number or something of that nature, but for the life of me I can't find anything. Only thing on FN's site are their newer bolts.

The main reason I am so interested is that I'd like to know the value of the gun and possibly find a different stock for the thing.

Can anyone shed any light on the situation? I am new to rifles and really need some help!

So I guess a commercial FN Mauser is a Company X building a gun out of a Mauser action? Is the FN Mauser and "M98" the same thing?

So will any stock that fits a Mauser fit this thing (with some possible fitting)?

Yes, pics would be great.
Belgian FN Mausers were some of the finest Mauser actions of the day, and the 6MM Remington is a great cartridge.
Stocks are available at many places, and your action should be a standard M98 Mauser.

Do a search at Midwayusa.

Don't do anything till you've figured it out. :) And for gosh's sake, don't tear up the old stock - those FNs are getting quite valuable.

NO

It's Fabrique National BUILDING a Mauser from scratch better than any military action from Germany.

It is however build to m98 pattern specs IIRC

look... it's a piece of garbage. Send it to me before you shoot it and i will dispose of it properly... maybe.

Kidding.... get that thing to a good smith. I only know that if it has the FN crest on the top of the receiver ring it was originally either a complete FN rifle or a FN barreled action.
If it was a barreled action mated to a stock by another company or builder, there will be a date on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver. Nice guns, great actions.
I have seen them sell from $400 rough to $1000 for Supremes in Claro.

It sounds to me like a JC Higgins Model 50 that has been rebarreled.

The Model 50 used an FN commercial action with a barrel by Hi Standard. That's why the action is marked ACTION made in Belgium.

It's a shame that its been rebarreled because the Hi Standard barrels were chrome lined and very accurate. Still it's a terrific action and sounds like a nice rifle.
