I am thinking about taking the plung into the handgun world. Currently the only one I have is a Browning Buckmark, which I wish now that I had picked up a Ruger Single Six instead of.
Right now I have two buddies I could pick up a used handgun from.
One is Highpower Mark II with 2 ten round mags in 9mm, he said he would sell it to me for $350
Other is Taurus 92 with two 15 round mags, could probably get if for 300 or 350.
Problem is I really don't want a 9mm, I would much rather have a .40 or 10mm. Should I pick up one of these now to use for the time being, or wait for something more to my fancy (exactly what I don't know) to come down the like?
Last if I do pic up the Highpower, what can I expect high cap mags to run?
Thanks
Matt

I'd start out with the Highpower given your choices. The 9mm is less expensive to shoot and has a lower recoil than 40/10mm loads. That will let you shoot more with less chance of picking up bad habits. I've seen standard mags go for around $45.

why only these two choices?
Is there anything else you want?

I shot lots of different pistols before i bought my first handgun (Belgian made Browning HighPower, a long time ago).

Since then I have bought several handguns. I like them all, I still like my HP but now I carry and shoot my 1911's the most.

Why limit yourself to used guns from your buddies? There are alot of resources for used/pre-owned guns that are worth a look ;)
But, of the choices, I'd go w/ the Hi-Power (depending on condition).

Why do I limit myself to these two choices:
The price seems good on each (maybe?) and I can try either of them out before I buy.
I would like to shoot some CZs but I do not know anyone who owns them. Same story with various 1911s. I have shot a para ordenance once but it was way out of my price rance. I guess I just don't know that many people with handguns.
I do like the rep of glocks but the ones I have handled just don't feel that good, although I have never shot one.

Of the two, Browning. Also, I had a Buckmark, sold it and bought a Single-Six, now I have a Ruger Mark II Gov't. The Single-Six was a pain to load. It's a 22-the one time you don't need to pickup brass to reload-stick with the semi and have fun. Also, I shot the Buckmark and the Mark II much better than the Single Six.
