Hey all,
Id like some advice on a gun im considering
its an SKS with brand new wood stock, scope (mounted- looks solid), and excellant reciever and action condition,
its marked around $230 bucks
i was trying to decide if this was a good deal, and at first i didnt think so but when I thought about it I thought it might be
my thought process was:
SKS in excellant condition
$150
scope kit
$40
gunsmith to mount scope (cause i sure cant!)
$40
new stock
$20
plus FFL transfer (possible), taxes, and shipping on parts, im over $250.....this might be a graduation gift, help me decide if its a god deal please :)

I've had no interest to scope my SKS, and I have seen some with some pretty nice stocks and bluing for less than $150.

It really comes down to if you want to pay for the scope or not. And what type of scope is on it already, there are $10 cheapos floating around too.

I might........

give two bills for a good SKS. 175 would be better. Screw the scope. This little carbine is best with irons.

These rifles are just fine without the scope. I tried a scope mount on mine, was dissapointed and took it off. I love it with iron sights, anyway, was just trying something new.

That depends on what kind of scope it is. The level of accuracy the SKS provides is in my opinion not worth the cost of a good scope. The Leapers line of scopes and mounts are just fine for the SKS.

That being said, I would try to get a little less $ for it. But then again if its a 100.00 scope then grab it, and hope for the best.

Good deals are out there if you look. I personnaly believe that SKS prices have leveled off for the time being.

Last week I picked up a pre-ban Russian with Tula arsenal markings, chrome bore, and bolt carrier, blade bayonet, Leapers scope and mount and a brake in very good shape for 250.00 this is also not a refurbish its all original. You would be amazed at the weight difference between the Russians and the Norinko's of which I have 2. The Russians used some good wood and steel.

(I would try to talk them down to 200.00.)

I put on some aftermarket aperture sights replacing the rear leaf, they worked quite well for cheapos.

$250 is not too bad for all the bells and whistles the gun has. Ask if you can break it down and inspect it thoroughly.

My first SKS I got burned on, The extractor was missing off the bolt, Found out when I got her home and tore her down. I had to order one. But that was the good old days when SKS's were $100 so it wasn't bad by todays standards.
