It's not an absolute but I've asked the question before and that's the general consensus. I don't have the exact mold your talking about, I use the NOE version of the Lyman 429421 with their HP set up in my 44 special. I play with above book max loads with that revolver and there's not much room for playing with seating so the HP and solid bullets get treated the same. I treat bullets I cast for an old model 86 45-90 the same way as not to damage the barrel on it and weight difference between the solid and HP version on that bullet is around 40 grains.

I don't change seating depths between solids and HP's as it's just an annoyance to me and I prefer to use the crimp grooves. Not all powders will be as touchy as Trail Boss but it's a good example of what you need to think about or when you start playing in the realm of +p loads. Treat the bullet as though it's always a solid and your safe. Experiment with it as a HP for your own risk. Like I said, I'm pretty sure you can push it faster as a HP, but that's an experiment to try once you've figured out the solid version. lots of people will tell you a load they might use for a 140 grain cast bullet but more often than not they'll be thinking of a solid 140 grain bullet, as home cast HP bullet molds aren't all that common.

The HP on that bullet is big and it'll work just fine even when ran at 160 grain 38 special velocities. Cast the HP bullets for target practice and two legged critter protection, cast the solids for kicking around the woods 4 legged critter protection. Once the pins in the NOE HP molds are good and hot you cast HP's just as fast as you do solids. My SOP for mine is half the cavities have HP pins in them and the other half get the FN pins so I always have a pile of both kind on hand.

Hodgdon has data using Trail Boss in 38/357 .

I find data for 140, but the bullet in question is 146, with a suggestion to load to 160 data, all lead. Their 140 is swaged lead by Hornady (soft).
