Been absorbed in rcmodel's threads for most of the afternoon ( :D )...seeing some of the "theater" knives reminded me of one I got from my grandpa a couple of decades ago....

Bad cell pic:

Blade is 5-1/4" long, possibly polished at one time. Handle is aluminum butt, leather/brass/aluminum washers. There are no markings anywhere that I can find.

Would anyone have some insight as to who made it?

Thanks,
Bill

No markings pretty well rules being able to ID it right out.

The best that can be said is that it resembles a number of knives from that, and later, time.

It looks like it was inspired by the old Kinfolks with the stacked leather washers, but the guard is "wrong" for the butt (or the butt is wrong for the guard).

Anybody think of anything with that pattern of brass and a single Al washer in the grip?

No.

Looks handmade to me though.

Possibly one from the WWII "Make a knife, Save a life" program.

Unfortunately, there is no way to I.D. who or when it was made though.

Thank you, gentlemen.

I figured it would be close to impossible without any markings.

I'll hang onto it for what it is, a nice gift from my grandpa :).

Show us a photo from the top and bottom or describe whether you belive the tang to be solid or split.
Can you show or describe how the hilt is attached?
My mind jumps immediately to a modified and over polished "Western" model but absolutely could be made-from-scratch-from-parts too.

Nope.

Still something hand-made by somebody.

The guard appears to be brazed to the blade.

The pommel is asymmetrical on the very end of the finger hook.

Nothing on it looks factory made to me.

rcmodel: Thanks, hand made works for me, kind of what I expected, but thought I'd ask here. Now...to make a sheath for it.....

Odd Job: Nothing...there was a bit of dirt that wiped off and some casting voids/pits in the pommel, but nothing anywhere as to inscriptions.

It's odd that the dirt would form letters, you sure there's nothing on that steel ring halfway up the handle?

Sorry guys, it really was just dirt....I was all excited thinking "How did I miss that!"....looked closer and it was just a smudge of grime....it is weird that the picture makes it look kind of like letters, I assure you that they weren't.
