I have a pair of 20 gauge Browning Auto-5s that I inherited a while back, and I wanted to get some information on them. I have looked at their website and read the guide but I cannot seem to figure it out.

I have one with a rib that has 71z on the top line and one without a rib that has 7z on the top line.

They both say made in Belgium and have gold triggers. If anyone shows some interest or needs anymore info I will post pictures. I think they are around 20 years old and are in perfect condition.

I do not believe either one has even been fired. They must be collector's items by now.

A-5 Letters

According to my book, for 1976 and earlier a "Z" does not fit. 1954-1958: H=standard, L=lightweight. 1958-1976: M=standard, G=lightweight, V=3 in. That should cover Belgian Mfg.

Maybe someone else can help?

A 'Z' might appear in the serial number for a Japanese post-'76 gun but not a Belgian gun. It may be that the receivers are Japanese and have been fitted with Belgian barrels.

Can you post pics of the SN's and barrel markings?
