help with gun choice

I'm looking for a little help in choosing my first hand gun. I have kind of narrowed it down to 3 choices:

Taurus 24/7 PRO DS, 9mm (DA/SA)
S&W M&P, 9mm (DOA)
Springfield XDm, 9mm (DOA)

My first choice was the Taurus due to the fit in my hand, decocker safety, and price, about $380 with tax from a local gun shop. But when i ordered it, it was supposed to come in the next week, but we are going on week 5 now and no gun. So, my eyes are wondering to what else is out there and what might be a better gun overall.

I'm concerned with the trigger pull on each of these guns. I haven't figured out what the point of DOA is on an auto pistol? Can someone explain that? Shouldn't it be SA due to the slide "cocking" the striker? I would appreciate anyone that could let me know how these guns fire (trigger) and what they think of the accuracy. I really don't like just the trigger safety on the S&W, but I might put up with it if it is the end all be all of guns.

Also, please don't bash any of the guns unless you have shot them and can tell me what they are like, also please don't tell me to get a Glock. The Glock is a great gun, but it doesn't fit my hand. The grip is too big for me.

I presume you mean "DAO" for "Double Action Only"

(as opposed to DOA, "Dead On Arrival")

I vote for either the XD or M&P over the Taurus. Whichever one fits best. Keep in mind that the M&P has 3 rear grip inserts to adjust the grip size.

I would rule out the Taurus, then decide between the XD and M&P based on what feels best in your hand.

There are lots of people out there who've had good luck with Taurus. But for those who didn't, the customer service was universally abominable. There is a good reason the XD and M&P cost $150 more, and it's worth it.

ATYGRIT, go to the top of this psge for an explanation of triggers, very nice explanation. Many automatic pistols have single action triggers or the option of carry the pistol double action or single action. A lot of people were used to a double action revolver an prefer the feeling. Others were brought up on single action pistols, like single action revolvers, and single action automatics and prefer the single action feel of the single action auto. like a 1911 Colt. There is also the Glock type trigger, like the new Smiths and Taurus 24/7 have. I would look at a CZ PO-1, in your price range and an excellent pistol, great service, good grip. I shoot Sig, CZ, Colt and Ruger, and Smith. My primary carry is a Sig or the CZ. Positivelylook at the CZ. Bill

check out the XD 20,000 round toruture test... I would not want to try that out on a Taurus or a S&W polymer pistol.

I thought the XD line was Single Action Only..... Considering the pistol has to be manually cocked before it can be fired for the first time. Recoil re-cocks the pistol before the trigger can release the firing pin on susequent shots.

The Ruger LCP is an example of a double action only pistol. Another example would be a hamerless revolver. The trigger pull on these types of pistols would be DAO.
