Good morning, I recently picked up a Henry 22lr H001 model. It was made this year so it has the newer sights. The front sight looks like o 20231030_073534.jpg nly a small screw holds it to the barrel. The rear Buck horn style has a very, very tiny screw, I'm not sure if it's dovetailed or just held on by that tiny screw. I would like to put the Hiviz fiber optic sights on it. I have searched here and there but found very little regarding the newer style sights. Any help on how to proceed would be appreciated. 20231030_073712.jpg 20231030_073645.jpg

looks pretty straight forward.....use a proper size hollow ground screw driver bit on the rear sight, the length of the screw removed will
reveal whether the screw enters the barrel or not. IF not, drive the rear dovetail off left-to-right. protect the barrel surface with blue paint tape.

Front sight same deal, can't tell whether the front sight hood blocks direct vertical access to the screw head or not, IF not, then simple offset screwdriver,
easy to fabricate correct size if you don't have one in your tool box.

Thanks a5werkes, the front sight hood slides off so no issue there. I have some hollow ground screwdrivers, but that slot on the rear sight screw is razor thin, and shallow. I'm guessing it's a set screw, just don't want to bugger it up. The dovetail overlaps both sides of the barrel so I'm guessing that's the windage adjustment.

The rear sight is a set screw. It doesn't thread into the barrel. It just tightens the sight in the dove tail. I had to adjust the rear a fair bit when I got mine. My astigmatism moves everything right. The front on mine is a barrel band, so I can't help there. The screw that holds that in place was threaded into the barrel. The original was too low, and I couldn't zero the sights at 50 yards. Henry sent a different front band and with a little filing, it's dead on at 50 yards now. The new barrel band screwed in place over the barrel and tube magazine and didn't change windage that I can tell.

Thanks DMW1116, I don't have the barrel band on the front sight, just the screw so that should be quick. It's that little set screw I'm concerned about so I'll put a drop of penetrating oil on it. I've done some basic smithing on some of my handguns, and I know this is pretty simple, but that tiny set screw looks like it can get buggered up. I'll let you all know what happens after I get the sights.

IIRC it wasn't too hard to loosen and the dovetail on mine is pretty tight. I doubt the recoil of a 22 would move it, but I tightened it back down anyway. I had a lot of laughs between my Henry and Marlins when zeroing the factory sights. It's not often you see someone shoot a couple rounds, then hit their rifle with a hammer and brass punch and then shoot a couple more. Lots of raised eyebrows and pointing from the younger shooters who only know click adjustments.

Figured I'd let you guys know I changed out the sights on my Henry. I broke down and picked up a set of precision screwdrivers and the 3/32" slotted fit the rear sight set screw which came out easily. Took about 20 minutes, taking my time, to change over to the hiviz lite pipes. Only issue I have is that the front sight is loose, seems the original screw doesn't tighten the front sight down.
