Used to shoot ISU bullseye with one. Worked well, but couldn't hold a candle to my GP100 for strength.

Really? Did you actually break the 19 or is this just supposition based on impressions? I prefer the forged S&W frame to that bulbous, cast Ruger frame that is bigger and heavier giving the impression that it's stronger but that's just my preference

The problem with the K-frame magnums is the very thin barrel section that passes through the frame. 110 and 125 grain magnum loads erode the forcing cone and may also be responsible for cracking the cone at the 6 o'clock position. If you limit the number of light weight magnum loads you shoot, a K-frame is likely to last you a lifetime.

I have read on a couple of forums of the forcing cone problem but is it all that common? I don't personally know of anyone who has experienced it and my K frame magnums have not shown any damage yet from my 125/1600 handloads. Maybe I haven't shot enough of them. I'll post a note if I break a gun with the 125 loads.

I had a chance to shoot a S&W 19-4 down at the range this week. It was my first time wielding a K-frame. Handy. That gun points like the Lord intended.

Also, much as I love my trusty GP100, I must admit that the 25-year-old (to judge from the comment in this thread), dark blued Smith had a truly superior action. Slick and clean, in both DA and SA modes.

Be patient -- I suspect you'll enjoy your new gun a great deal.

I shot a 2 & 1/2" 19 loose. Will have a good smith stretch the tube on the crane, set back the barrel, and otherwise tighten it up.

The 4" 19 left the factory without being fired. Still has perfect bueing inside the barrel. It remains virginal. So, since I didn't have a 19 I could shoot, today there was this 6" at the gunshp with almost all it's blueing except for a couple fingernail sized spots at the muzzle.

I put it on layaway. Then about an hour-and-a-half later went back and put the rest on plastic. Now to get it inside without alerting the wife.
