I purchased an "excellent" quality Yugo SKS from SOG. I liked working with them so I'm not bashing SOG.
After taking off the cosmo, I discovered lots of dings and scratches. Most all parts had been scribed with a number, that doesn't bother me. But the bashed front sight, scratches all over the sides of the barrel and receiver do. It looks like someone went all over the thing with a screw driver and pryed things. The charging handle looks like it fell down a few flights of stairs. And it had dents in the stock.
Now, I've been offered $20 my next purchase of another SKS. And I may do it but:
What condition can be expected from the higher grades of SKS's? And where can they be purchased?
I wouldn't call a scratched up gun with dents in the stock excellent. It'll shoot after I clean the rusty bore, but its not like it was carefully taken care of either.
Nesides, how can they tell a "shooter' from an "excellent" unit if its covered in cosmolene? They cant see the scratches in that condition....
