I recently installed a Hiviz fiber optic front sight on my 22/45, the problem is that the gun is shooting 4-5.5 inches low from point of aim. It is not user error, as it is almost near perfect grouping at 4-5.5 inches low.

What can I do to adjust this?

Adjust the rear sight. Raise the rear sight to move the POI up with respect to the POA.

If you don't have and adjustable rear you are kind of hosed, unless you can exchange it for a lower one.

Hey wally, thanks for the help, I will have to look into getting an adjustable rear sight .

The Reliant gun show was a lot of fun and I was pretty impressed with the prices, no need to go to any shops when bachman is selling that cheap. thanks for all of that info with regards to the show.

Can I just get a Ruger adjustable rear sight and swap it out?

What about the williams firesights?

I am suprised that it is off that much. I swapped the two front sights between my two Mark III. Both were OEM Ruger, one fiber optic and the other target. Neither gun was a 22/45 though. Anyway, POA/POI did not change after the swap. Another option is to see if Ruger sells of Fiber optic front for that gun that will not require a rear sight change.

The Hiviz sight is way too high and I really dont even want to attempt to file that sight down, so it has to be the rear sight that has to be swapped out.

The front hiviz sight is apparently too high and that is why its shooting so low, although the groups are rather nice. Its just annoying when you fork out $20 bucks and wait at an indoor range and your gun shoots so low.

I still think something is not right.

How far away from the target are you when you are shooting 5 inches low? If you are close to the target, you may not get enough adjustment from an adjustable rear.

Do you have a tapered barrel?

Fits Mark II and III heavy barrel guns including 22/45 and Browning Buck Mark Pistols (except Challenge, 5.5 Target, and 5.5 Field).

I don't think the Hi-Viz is meant for a tapered barrel. I bet your new front sight is taller than your old front sight.

Given that I have swapped sight with no change and you have changed with a 5 inch drop something just seems wrong.

Keep us posted.

Yes, you can swap out the fixed sight for a Ruger adjustable one.

The Williams Fire Sight is sold as a set and will fit your pistol. There is photo (when it shows up, imageshack can be slow) of them on a MKIII 22/45 in this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=337170

Regards,
Greg

You could always try filing down the top of your rear sight (though you may have to deepen the notch)

I am running out of ideas. That front sight should work since you have the bull barrel. You should be able to go to an adjustable rear sight.

The only other thing I can think of is your sight picture. Perhaps the front sight alignment in relation to the rear sight has changed when you line it up. There is a tendancy with the high viz to key off the illuminated dot instead of the top edge of the front sight.

I am sorry I can not be of more help.

If you are really stuck, call Ruger or post on http://www.mkiii.org/forum/
or someone else here my chime in.

Best of luck and please keep us posted.

I contacted Hiviz and they were not aware that Ruger even made a 22/45 with out adjustable rear sights, so I will have to an adjustable rear sight. I guess they had planned for adjustmentable rear sights.

Besides ruger where can I get a factory MK3 22/45 rear adjustable sight?
