I've convinced my mom to eventually get a gun for self-defense (although I'd be the primary user for recreation). I'd love to get a Heckler and Koch USP (I like the H&K name, I believe they are great guns), but the grip is a little too big and just doesn't feel good in either of our hands. However, the new P2000 has come out, with adjustable backstraps. I still think we're going for a Sig P229, but we might go with HK. My main question is: does anyone know if HK plans to jump through the hoops and get it approved for the People's Republik of California?

Seeing that HK has dedicated so much into the P2000 it is just a matter of time before we start seeing them here in the occupied territory.

If the P2000 is DAO or LEM like I read it is. I want no part in it. Now a Single action cocked and locked version or at least a da sa gun would not be too bad.

I suppose you can;t buy the gun in another state and take it back to California, can you?

I saw my first P2000 today at a show. It was in .40. Felt very nice in the hand. Price was $843. Ouch! That's a lot (read: too much) for a poly pistol.

Good for you!

Every time my mom hears about a criminal on the news, she wants to buy a gun. She nevr gets around to it, however, but at least its a bit promising. gotta get her to take me to the range again!

In 45 ? you'd have to redesign the whole gun. I know it's a great cartridge but the 40 performs about as well in my experience.

looked a bit like a sig polymer rip off to me. they need to bring that price down. anybody know if they got the US location build and running yet?

Considering Hk debuted polymer handguns before anyone else did - including Glock - how'd they rip of SIG? While the price may be a bit higher than other handguns in the same niche, you get what you pay for! The US plant just brke ground a short time ago. Not scheduled to be up and operating until '05 I believe. I wouldn't expect any major events at that time anyways since the military project is such a major project right now. We can hope though.
