I live in Northern Virginia and do a lot of hunting, but I wanted to try hog hunting. My question is what is the closest place to VA that has hogs?

Thanks
Edward

Answer is....

Virginia. Probably. Actually I've never been to Virginia, but if it's like any Southern state, feral hogs are rampant in some areas. I
d first check with local game officials who can point you either to public lands, or private landowners most of whom are more than happy to have the hogs thinned. The Park Service is even starting to trap them here in the Buffalo National River Park.

Good Luck.

Try looking in the Classifed Ads for BOWHUNTER MAGAZINE. There are many hunting operations to choose from.

For a personalized hunt I suggest contact this Booking Agent for free info:

He booked a hunt for one of our friends to someplace in Tennessee and he had a great time.

Good hunting to you.

it depends.

Do you want feral hog hunting? or russian boar hunting?

private land or public land? ANy time or during designated seasons.

You can get both or either or pretty much in any state.

Technically, I'd say the closest you woul dhave to go is down to culpepper, but thats gonna require you knowing someone who actually has a problem with pigs on their private land and is willing to let you on to shoot them. It used to be a bigger problem in culpepper, but I think there are enough hunters in NoVA that it was largely taken care of (I think).

More consistently, you can head down to SE Virginia, just along the NC border. Much better chance of finding a farmer there begging for you to take care of the problem. And I think during regular season, the state actually has some hunts going on.

If you go to Western Carolina, you can find some gorgeous Boars at game preserves, but in Eastern Carolina, the pigs are just running wild and the local pig farmers hate them and really want them destroyed (they spread disease and cause crop damage).

I tend to head down to Eastern Carolina or Georgia to hunt pigs (though I am in Florida today and am looking at getting out tomorrow)
