I went out today and bought some Federal Factory ammo for the .280 in 160gr trophy bonded bearclaw, just to see how I liked it to maybe load that bullet in the gun. So then I had to go find some test medium, which we happen to have thousands of around here, hogs...

I drive up to a small stock tank and happen to catch a 150lb sow running out of the water with a limp. I throw the rifle up and put one through both front shoulders and she drops straight down. I didn't recover the bullet at 50yds, through the shoulders and buried in the tank dam deep enough I couldn't dig it out by hand.

So I bring her home and when washing her off discover an old bullet wound that went through both shoulders. About that time I lean in and get a wiff of nasty infection:barf: I start looking at it and find two pucker marks on both shoulders on the outside scabbed over and the inside pretty nasty gashes. It was nasty and interesting at the same time. How many critters do you know that would take this kind of abuse and still be out and about eating corn, wallowing and such. Most animals would have been recovered at the shot sight, because the shoulders would have been shattered...

You need to get Maggie a rifle so she can go with you next time. Gotta start them young.

She was with me, she goes about twice a week with me on average. Sometimes we hunt birds, but most of the time hogs and deer. She actually spotted these today about the same time I did. She'll be four in Jan. guess she'll be needing a larger rifle in another year or two, all she has now is a 10/22. :D
