(excerpt)

Despite French opposition to a war in Iraq, the French military could assist any U.S.-led coalition should Iraq use biological and chemical weapons against coalition forces, the French ambassador to the United States said Tuesday.

"If Saddam Hussein were to use chemical and biological weapons, this would change the situation completely and immediately for the French government," Jean-David Levitte said.

It kinda seems that now that they know we are going in, and that they will be left in the cold when it's all over, they are trying to weasel in, without losing face or whatever limited power over their sphere of influence they had.

But what do I know. I still eat French Fries anyway, cause the potatoes are from Idaho, and I support American made products.

I just call em belly sticks, cause my belly gets a lot bigger when I eat a lot of them.

I knew they were going to do this. I was talking to a friend yesterday evening and I outlined this exact tactic. Hopefully, President Bush will tell France, "No thanks, we've got this under control".

"If we need help dropping our rifles, we'll give you a call, until then, thanks but no thanks. You go watch that Jerry Lewis Telethon, and we'll take it from here. "

Sorry! French bashing and OT, but I can't help it!

Strange that our original request to them was for help specifically in the area of chem/bio defense. They said no to that, obviously. If we encounter chem or bio weapons over there, the french offer will be about as useful as...well, you know. :fire:

Perhaps the French would be useful, like the "test canaries" the old-time coal miners used...

OOOOPS, you didn't really see that post, because I really didn't write it....or even think it..

After all, this is 'The High Road'

What exacty would they do at that point...stop selling Iraq spare parts for aircraft and reactors?

I thought the Iraqi's didn't have any of those nasty items? I think the French might know a little more than they are leading us to believe.

"If Saddam Hussein were to use chemical and biological weapons, this would change the situation completely and immediately for the French government," Jean-David Levitte said.

Sounds reasonable to me, from their point of view, of course.

Thing is, though, why should, or would, it change the situation for the rest of us?

And so why sould we care what it changed for the French? Isolated in their corner of Europe, with 20% of the population hostile Muslims, they've their own problems.

I'll try not to laugh when their SHTF, but it'll be tough.

I saw the second 911 bird go in on the tube, and since I'd learned to fly, I knew it was intentional, and it made me truely pi**ed.

So.. do you think the French are man enough to admit "Oh, they had chemical and bio weapons, we were wrong, you were right"??? Or do you think they know Saddam has them, and just was wondering if they would be used?

Lemon laws: I sell you a car and I "forget" to tell you the brakes don't work; I can go to jail.

If the french knew something and didn't tell us and put our boyz in danger... I think that is grounds to declare war and the french :fire:

As much as I hate to say it, if Iraq uses Chemical and Biological weapons on our troops, we win. Then the gloves really come off and all those Naysayers are dead WRONG! However, for our boys.......:( May our Heavenly Father watch and protect our troops on the eve of war.
