Hi guys

I don't have any experience with comp-tac holsters. In fact I haven't had any experience with any kydex holsters. I've been happy to slap leather for all my life. However I've been playing with the idea and the one company I came across on the net was Comp-tac. The arfcomers all rave about these holsters. I firstly like the look and they ship to South Africa (HUGE and I can't state how HUGE that is but HUGE bonus). I can actually get some.

So firstly I was wondering if an IWB holster isn't uncomfortable in Kydex. I mean it doesn't breath/absorb the sweat. Of course this keeps your gun nice and dry but would I want to carry it all day, every day if it feels really uncomfy and hot?

Then which model to select. Price being an issue as well. Our currency doesn't stack up all that well against the mighty dollar. ;)

I was looking at the following:
The Infidel holster
The C-TAC holster
And then these two hybrids:
The Minotaur Spartan Holster
The Minotaur MTAC Holster
(The only difference I can spot with the last two is that the MTAC has an extra leather patch on the bag to cover the screws.)

I like the idea of having some leather against my skin to deal with the sweat while keeping my gun safe.

I do IDPA and I'm looking to use it for that purpose as well. I see Blade-Tech's IDPA holsters are just kydex. So I was wondering if the hybrids better or worse for this use?

I am in the south (Texas) and it gets hot here in the summer. I really like the MTAC for the overall comfort and weight distribution, truly a holster that you can wear all day. I have tried an Infidel and like it fine. The leather is just more comfortable against my side.

The M-TAC is comfortable, but when you draw your gun the mouth of the holster squishes closed a bit, making it harder/slower to re-holster than the C-TAC, et al which have Kydex on all sides and thus retain the shape of the mouth for easy re-holstering.

Don't forget also that you can buy the kydex part by itself to fit other firearms as well.

And spend the money to get the model with the leather covering the nuts on the backside or you'll be looking for some deer or pig skin to glue on after you wear it for awhile.

Well I was on another forum the other day and they all also said I should go for the C-TAC. Full kydex for IDPA etc. etc.

So i'll either go for the C-TAC or the Infidel. The C-TAC for my HK USP fullsize 40 and the Infidel Slide version for my Glock 27.

If they have it in stock for your model gun...some CompTac IWB holsters are in overstock liquidation at gunnersalley.com for $30 plus $17 for the attachment method of choice.

I wanted one for my Sig P226, but they only had L hand, so I got one for my Kahr K9 instead. If I really like it, I'll get one for my Sig at full price.

I have a Blade Tech IWB now for my K9, it is pretty comfortable. I'm expecting the Comp Tac design to be a lot better due to how it hooks to the belt (i.e. not directly to the holster section).

The Infidel holster has the advantage of easy on - easy off if you need that kind of option. The MTAC takes a little time to put on and take off. I have both and the MTAC is the more comfortable by far, but if I am going to have to take it off and then put it back on I use the Infidel.

thanks,
George

I didn't find that to be the case, mine is very comfortable with no covering on the hardware.
