This last weekend, I won myself a nice little revolver at a show. After mulling it over, I decided that it just wasn't quite up my alley, so I brought it into a local gun shop, and walked out with the one double action revolver that's been on the top of my wishlist: a new charter bulldog.
.44 special is just perfect for me, and quite an improvement over a .38 special (especially when considering that I already am set up to load .44 special).
This is the first smokeless revolver that I have owned, and since this was free, and I don't yet have the money to get the work done on my 1860 to make it worthy of carry, the bulldog is going to be my first carry gun.

I've noticed that there is a fairly slim selection for the bulldog when it comes to holsters, but I was hoping that someone on here might have some good input. It seems that some place like El Paso Saddlery is a good place to look.
Ideally, I'd prefer something in a crossdraw or shoulder configuration. I just find it very comfortable to draw that way.

Let me know what you all think, and if there is some reason I should not be looking at shoulder or crossdraw holsters, let me know.

Thanks

I carry mine in a Milt Sparks Summer Special. You want a thin holster to get the Bull Dog's size advantage. The cross draw is good, but a shoulder holster is a lot of buck and complex for the little gun IMHO.

Simply Rugged has several options available, and the price/quality is very good.

You ask about crossdraw. I usually carry some sort of OWB crossdraw. It works for me, but you'll hear all sorts of erroneous information about it being difficult or "unsafe". Generally these comments come from folks who never learned how to draw properly from a crossdraw.

You'll also hear that it's easier to be disarmed. Now think about this, in a strong side, someone can grab it from behind you, not really a great positon to defend against. But if they try to grab a crossdraw from the front, you've got the ability to use both hands, feet and head to attack/defend with from a position that they are much better suited to be used.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Hello friends and neighbors // Look at the Ruger Alaskan 2 1/2" Holster #DAO186 by Glaco.

Fits my S&W 327 NG / .8 shot .357 / with N frame size cylinder very well in crossdraw and has great retention.
It has two carry angles, plus mine came with two speed loaders for a 6 shot .44 ,I can use with my S&W 29. If you have a 6 shot .44 too this is a bonus.

Good luck finding what works for you
