So I have two 6.5 inch N-frames a 610 and a 29. Both full under-lug barrels When hunting I carry them in a Gunfighter Kenai chest-rig but in the summer I would rather carry them on my belt.

I have two holsters I currently use with them. An inexpensive Tagua open top belt holster that is fairly comfy but not all the easy to draw from and impossible to reholster one handed. The holster collapses and takes a fair bit of finagling to re-holster. The other holster is a Vega T1 belt holster with thumb break. This holster draws and reholsters fairly easily though I am not a big fan of the thumb break. The problem though is both holsters leave the revolver to low on my belt and when I sit down on a seat in a vehicle (UTV, Tractor, etc) the end of the holster hits the seat before my butt is fully seated forcing the gun and my belt up on my strong side. It is not horrible but if I could find a holster that move the revolver up 1.5-2 inches I could sit more comfortably.

So does someone make a belt holster for a 6.5 inch N-frame that would put the front of the cylinder at approximately the top of the belt and have a reinforced opening so it would not collapse? Ideally only an adjustable friction retention though I could live with a thumb break. Any suggestions would be appreciated my searches so far have not found what I am looking for so I figured I would ask you guys. Leather would be nice but I am not against a good kydex or hybrid holster either.

Does the opening at the top collapse when you draw? Can you re-holster one handed?

The opening does not collapse, but it is an inside the pocket holster so I always remove it to reholster. I suppose I could reholster one handed, but (being in the pocket) I don't.

Ohh I thought you also has the sour dough pancake version linked above, sorry.

My Tagua does not have reinforcement around the mouth and is a similar design to the Sour Dough in that it two pieces of leather stitched flat against each other. When its pull tight around my body on my belt the design has a tendency to collapse after the revolver is drawn making re-holstering difficult. Looking at the Simple Rugged Sour Dough and its construction I worry that its design is also going to lead to the same collapse making re-holster difficult.

Look at Ted Blocker holsters. I use them extensivly, he makes one that incorporates a metal strip in the front that keeps the holster open for an easy reholster.

I should have made that clear at the start. The point I was making is that my holster leather is extremely stiff. At any rate, I would call the holster maker of your choice and relay your concerns to them. Anyway, I usually carry my longer barreled N framed Smiths in a Bianchi Cyclone crossdraw holster.

My Simply Rugged pancake holster requires both hands to reholster, The mouth closes partially without a gun in there.

Bummer, I have hear lots of good things about Simply Rugged but I really like to be able to reholster without using both hands.

I carried a 6" N frame in a SR on a horse, ATV, and motorcycle on the ranch for several years.. Never a worry about losing it. The holster closes a little, but I never had trouble re-holstering. There was always room to get the muzzle started and then you can slip the gun in very easily. You won't find one that keeps the gun high and tight any better.

The Galco Phoenix is the best 6.5” N frame holster I own. But the Bianchi Cyclone is a close second. I prefer to carry the 6.5” cross-draw because it doesn’t jam into the seat of the jeep. My 4” guns ride in a Cyclone usually strong side. I’ve been too cheap to buy a Phoenix because while it IS nicer than the Cyclone, it sure isn’t twice as nice but it is twice as expensive.

Thanks for the recommendation but both of those appear to put the cylinder at the same height as the two holsters I have. I need to get the front of the cylinder to the top of my belt to keep the muzzle from hitting the seat.

...plus, no problem re-holstering.

I'm thinking about getting one for my 6" Anaconda.

I have a hard time seeing how it does not cause issues re-holstering, though I certainly could be wrong. It just appears that the un-reinforced top of the holster just looks like its going to collapse, if not when new, once it gets broken in. Especially if worn tight on a relatively thin waist.

You guys are probably going to stop talking to me but I am sort of leaning towards a Gunfighter Ronin kydex holster, not a leather holster. I am waiting to hear if they can make one for an 6.5 inch barrel N-frame. They list N-frames but I was unsure about the longer barrel in the Ronin. I am also hoping they can get the front of the cylinder up toward the top of the belt. Hopefully they send a message back shortly. I have a Gunfighter Kenai and the quality is great.

The shear number of holster makers out there is pretty staggering even when you eliminate all the one that don't make N-frame holsters. That said if any of you know of Kydex holster maker that are making N-frame holsters I would love it if you could drop a name or a link. Seems very few makers are making Kydex for N-frames.

Does Stealth Gear offer the Flex for that size N frame? I have two of their flex holsters and they are great. The looks are also detachable and movable for higher or lower ride. Don't think they offer many revolver models though.
