I'm thinking of making a homemade snap-cap in 9mm. I already have a casing with the primer removed. Any good ideas on what to fill the primer hole with? I know snap caps are made commercially but I won't be near a place that sells them for awhile.

never thought of this. will these chamber fairly well? i would like to let someone else set up my magazines so i dont know when a snap cap is coming. seems like a good way to keep from flinching.

Pencil eraser, tire, or silicone caulk. I think the caulk gives the cleanest install, but it does have a tendency to shrink when it dries. Some more than others.

I made some snap caps by gluing rubber plugs into the primer pocket, then trimming the excess. A lot of work with degreasing, trimming and so on, now I buy snap caps.

Brandon, if you're just using brass with something in the primer hole as a snap cap, your gun won't chamber the empty from the magazine.

If you have access to reloading equipment, it's pretty easy to make your own, just put a bullet on an empty case and load it.

Those will chamber just fine. However, you should spraypaint them orange or otherwise obviously mark them so they can be readily identified as inert.

Brandon, your idea of having a empty case in the magazine is one of the "tricks" I use when working with a less experienced shooter. However, what I do is handle the gun for each shot with my back to the shooter only inserting one round at a time and randomly placing a dud in. That way I can observe thier preformance on the bench. So, instead of loading the mag just put the mag in nad hand the gun over to the shooter after you've loaded the chamber and placed it on safe.
