Hornady 38 Cowboy Bullet for .357 Magnum?

Hornady doesn't show on their website that the 38 Cal .358" 140 gr Cowboy bullet can be used on a .357 Magnum cartridge. So I figure it can't be used for a .357 Magnum load.

Has anyone used this bullet on a .357 Magnum cartridge/load?

Those are very soft swaged lead bullets intended for cowboy velocity loads 700ish feet per second. Drive them too much faster and you will start leaving lead behind in your barrel. Use them with a moderate 357 loading and you will shortly have a smoothbore revolver.

Keep them at the velocity they are designed for.

I have shot a few boxes of these. Work pretty well for low speed. No reason you cannot load with 357 cases, but I would not try to push them super fast.

Powder coat, better lube and/or a plain base gas check could get them going a bit faster if necessary and thats all ya got I suppose!

As reefinmike posted, keep them to around 700 FPS and you'll be fine, regardless of which case/gun you shoot them from.

You'll need a different bullet for midrange to upper .357 Mag loads.

Soft lead swaged bullet. I prefer a harder cast bullet, even in my cowboy action ammo. Less expensive, too.

Load them with light to medium .38 Special data in your .357 brass. That should be nice light recoil/muzzle blast loads...

I use them all the time in 357, revolver and carbine. 900 fps plain, or up to 1000 fps with a coat of Lee liquid alox. Bullseye, Clays, Trail Boss.
