I would shoot enough to sight it in. Then I would practice with a standard load in the same weight and point of impact. Back in the day Colt stated that limited use of +P was acceptable but they should be checked or limited at 1000 rounds. I think they checked the frame for stretching and acelarated wear.

As far as I know, the 110 FTX is not +P rated. I just checked a box of it I have, and it is not so labeled.

I would shoot EITHER Hornady .38 Special FTX load in that revolver, with no worry about doing anything bad to it. (110g FTX -or- 95 g LITE FTX). Neither are 'plus-p' loads.

Thanks!

Thanks, Y'All!

My question was answered right smartly...good and helpful forum here!

I'd tried some other boards recently and they were snooty and "good-ol'-boyish". Didn't feel welcome at all and was kinda curtly dismissed.

I've found a "home" here...

:)

It's fine.

But personally, myself?
I would not shoot that light for caliber 110 grain bullets in a gun designed for 158 grain bullets.
If you gotta go slow, go heavy!
Penetration may be lacking if the 110 expands as designed.

Look at Speer Short Barrel 135 grain Gold Dots for instance.

From my own testing, it don't get no better then that out of a snub-nose revolver.

I believe all ammo used for S.D. and hunting should be tested in the gun they will be used in.

I have tested Hornady Critical Defense .38 Spl +P 110gr FTX in a Taurus M-85 2" barrel and Colt Police Positive Special 4" barrel. From the Taurus the FTX expanded 100% of the time when fired into water as compared to the Federal Hydra-Shoks which only expanded 50% of the time. FTX's are very accurate and hit p.o.a. from both guns.

I'm with RC on this one. I like the heavier boolits and my pick is a 140gr XTP that I load over Unique. Great expansion and enough penetration.

They penetrated to the bottom of the water barrel.

Other tests included shooting through four layers of Demin and four layer of cotton shirt and 3 milk jugs filled with water.

But you need to do your own testing with your guns, ammo and test media instead of taking someone's word off of the Internet.

Besides shooting things is fun.
