Recently set up the press and I am having problems with the primer feed. Loading .45 acp and the primer arm gets stuck open and has to be tapped on to return to prime the case (win primers). Any ideas? I called Hornady and they said "that should not happen"... They did offer to look at it but Has anyone had a similar problem and solved it?
Thanks Mike

The other possibility is the primer punch has debris in it, and isn't retracting all the way. It should retract below the outer rim when it's working right. The primer shuttle catches on it if it's sticking up.

I have a LnL AP as well. I had the same problem with Federal Primers. For some reason my press doesn't like them. I have tried loosening the allen bolt, tightening it, cleaning the primer slide and its chute, replacing the primer slide, and finally used a dremel on the primer slide to take any burrs off of it. Now my primer feed works much smoother with most any brand of primer. I still had issues with 5 or 6 of 100 Federal primers so I don't use them. Remington, Winchester, and CCI all feed and seat perfectly fine on my press (they always did), just not Federal. Go figure.

Pull the primer sled out and make sure it and the track is clean. You might also try some light lub, like Hornady's One Shot cleaner/lube. Also take the primer tubes off and look down into the hole on the sled to make sure the hole on the arm and the hole in the sled line up, adjust if they dont. Another idea is to take some fine wet/dry sand paper and polish the top surface of the primer sled.

Mine does that when it's dirty -- usually a tiny bit of spilled powder. It's also worse if I raise the press handle too slowly.

Aside from the other ideas- all good - a little bit of powdered graphite in the track helps mine work better.

I think the above posters have pretty much covered the bases- the primer shuttle (sled) should be free of burrs and absolutely no powder bits where it rides. It is very intolerant of even the slightest bit of powder; for that reason I keep a small paint brush nearby and dust off the shell plate and surrounding areas when I see flakes of powder.

Replace the white primer follower-weight with the same size steel dowel. The additional weight will ensure your primers are landing where they're supposed to and not causing a hangup.

I was having the same problem on my new LNL press.....today, just trying to set it up and learn it on some light 44 Mag loads. The primer sled wouldn't grab a primer under the primer tube; could not figure it out.
I loosened up the primer shroud and took off that plastic stabilizer on top and it works like a champ now. I guess it was a binding up. Whew...life is good now.

Had similiar problems, my shuttle slide wasn't going back far enough to allow a primer to fall into the hole. I had to take the metal tube that the shuttle follows back and bend it away from the press. It works now, but it still occassionally hangs up. Good luck, Jared
