Does anyone have the listed OAL for 124 grain xtp for 9mm luger from the hornady handbook. All I have is the Hodgdon Manual and that manual does not list the specific OAL for the 124 grain xtp. Thanks
Welcome to THR. Interesting first question for a post.
According to this, it is 1.095". I've been testing some loads with various 124 gr bullets, and OAL's somewhat less than this. Somewhere I recall that the minimum is 1.000". In my loads, with a modest 12.2 grains of AA #7, I started with a 124 FMJ seated to an OAL of 1.095". When I used the same die setting for Remington JHP and Speer GDHP, the OAL was somewhat less, maybe about 1.060". I also loaded some 124 grain Berry's Preferred Plated to an OAL of about 1.030". All of these were with 12.2 grains of AA #7, and all functioned perfectly in my Taurus PT24/7. I think the light load behind the Berry's Preferred Plated is going to make for a nice, inexpensive, plinking load.
Edit: jr81452 scooped me, and has better data. I didn't pay close enough attention, to that being the XTP. But 1.060" sounds right for that kind of bullet.
thanks for the replys I have load books data for all the other calibers I reload but they were out for the 9mm. I normally use the bullet makers COL and the powder makers recipe for everything else . Seems the hornady xtp's in 9mm really have a lot of discrepency in COL from the different manual makers.
I tried the 1.060 COL and had a stovepipe and very poor accuracy I even called Hornady they gave me the same COL. Funny thing is in there handbook that I finally looked at they show a longer COL for the 115 xtp than the 124 xtp. I did try 1.11 COL.with 4.0 to 4.4 grains of titegroup the 4.4 grain load was very accurate At 1.12 the accuracy slipped I think I'll try 1.10 and use either that or 1.11.thanks for the help. Guess my BDM likes the COL's to be a little longer.
