NORRED & ASSOCIATES ABOLISHES ARMED SECURITY POSITIONS AT LOCAL HOSPITAL!

CLIENT: U.A.B. MEDICAL WEST OF BESSEMER, ALABAMA

On 01 SEPT 03, Norred & Associates of Atlanta, GA took over
control of hospital security at U.A.B. Medical West, located in
the town of Bessemer, AL. With advice of former Birmingham
Police Chief Bill Myers, the hospital administrator Mr.
Dan Eagar, Jr. decided that armed post where to be limited
to one position; that being the security post of the E/R.

This action was taken due to the fact that U.A.B. Medical West
feared law-suit's arising in case of a injury, death, or
negligent discharge of a firearm by TRAINED security
personel.

Let it be known that this city (Bessemer, AL) is one of the
most violent cities in the state of Alabama; where crime
and criminal's run rapid, with little respect for law and order!
Murder, Rape, and Robbery are common place in this city.
Most of the victims (and perp's) arrive at this
facility for treatment of their wound's.

This action leaves several key post's, including the
outside rover (motor vechile officer), and the front lobby
officer in harm's way; unable to "Protect OR Serve".

Mr. Myers of Norred & Associates can be quoted as saying;
"Hospital Security Officer's Don't Need Gun's"!

I urge concerned individuals to petiton the board of trustee's
at U.A.B. Medical West to reverse this action. The LIFE you
save, could be YOUR"s!

By allowing some officers to be armed and not others, I would think they are really skating on thin ice. A lawsuit by a injured unarmed officer or one by his next of kin should prove interesting. Do they all recieved firearms training or just the ones at the ER post? And yes,Bessemer can be an interesting place at times!!!

Of all the times I've been through Bessemer over the years, I never knew it was such a dangerous place. And if this is the fact, why in the heck would you want less armed security? And in Alabama of all places. You'd expect this kind of thing in NJ, NY, or CA, but here in the South? :what:

Dumb move :(

Hospitals are often the scene of follow-up or revenge acts of violence...

If I were a disarmed security officer, my ONLY response to ANY disturbance would be to run away and call for help on my radio or cell.

NO WAY would I put myself in harm's way at the direction of the bureaucrats who disarmed me.

Hello All-

Att: Capbuster- previously all hospital security
officer's received firearm's training; both in the class room
and through qualification.

Att: New Shooter 78- since the old day's (thru the
early 70's), Bessemer, Alabama has become a very
dangerous place. Like in New Jersey or New York, one
should NEVER go unarmed in this neck of the woods.
Local police officer's are under paid; so therefore they
are very much under staffed. Response time to 911 type
situations is terrible; sometimes not arriving at all!:uhoh:

Att: C.R.Sam- Can you say "Police Protection"?
As of late, one needs the security officer to protect and
serve; while the police officer visits the local coffee
house, or donut shop.

Att: blueduck- you are ever so right, my friend!

My long time friend Capbuster was a dedicated
local LEO for many year's. Both of us know of this towns
problems and its corruption. In about 1978 veteran LEO's
began retiring, or transferring to other department's.
Shortly after that, this city's old and corrupt police chief
died; an a successor was named. Truthfully, he was old
and just wanted to make retirement; by not rocking the
boat, or making waves against the administration's
policy. Since then, NO chief has grabbed the bull by his
horn's, or attempted to right the ship.

Finally, U.A.B. Medical West's administrator has
gone along with all this crime, cover-up, and corruption.
Formerly known as Bessemer Carraway Medical Center,
this top administrator has mistreated staff and co-worker's
for as long as the city has had it's problems; often times
paying hourly worker's the bare minimum wages, and
dangling their head's over chopping block's if they dared
screw up. Raises were non existent for a long, long time;
then a 3% raise occurred about every two year's, NOT
nearly enough to keep up with the cost of living and
forcing some employees to rob or steal, to make up
the difference in pay.

In closing, I see U.A.B. Medical West as definitely
contributing to this city's problem's. Mr. Eagar is the
state's highest paid hospital administrator; but his
hospital continues to have the highest personel
turn over rate in the state!

I know that a hospital can be the scene of domestic dusputes, and fights, having been there, ( small town of 20,000) , and having a wife who is an ER nurse. She has asked to borrow my second vest before, when they have let the security officers there go. Dumb move. After all, I remembers going there and had a guy threaten the staff with a shotgun. Came out ok, without any shots fired.
