How an anti becomes a proRKBA over night

My friend owns a drinks store in Orange County. His partner, use to always hassle me, calling me "The psycho friend who's all into guns.." Very anti gun.

Well, two shops up from him store, the store got robbed and cleaned out.. and overnight.. guess who was asking me "Hey, where do I buy a revolver, and what's a good barrel length? Are shotguns a better option?"

You don't even need to get mugged or robbed, just need to have the lightbulb in your head go on...

I told him since I'm no longer there, don't just run out and buy a gun, learn how to use it, join the NRA or the like and have someone teach him proper gun handling. Also, unless all his employees are going to be aware of the gun, I'd handle the situation carefully and view it from all angles..

Well.... Skunk just informed me the store now sports an NRA sticker on the window :cool:

Good thing he got the wake up call.....Announcing you are armed with things like an NRA sticker is not a good idea , then the bad guys shoot immediately. The element of surprise is one of the best things going for you , don't throw it away. I also hope the man gets the best training he can find.

I find this sort of thing, the store owner's reaction to the neighbor's robbery, interesting. Examples of it can be found in all sorts of venues & sitations, not necessarily involving firearms.

It's a sort of: Adreneline short-circuits faulty thought process & thoughts proceed directly to survival practicality.

Which admittedly does frequently come to the; 'how to bring the most force to bear on the problem in the least amount of time' mind frame which, in turn, usually involves guns.

What's interesting to note, is the ease with which so many people take the faulty path to begin with.

Is there something about a mini-van that causes brain-fade?

I prefer to think of it the other way. "A liberal is a conservative that has not been mugged yet."

Not all conseratives have been mugged. Some people are smart enough to learn from the misfortunes of others. ;)

I've heard that before, but I'm not entirely convinced. I think most robbers are opportunists and would go elsewhere when faced with the prospect of holding up a victim who is known to be armed. This seems reasonable thinking considering the general decline in violent crime when states become must-issue.

I do agree that putting such a sticker on your home could make you more attractive to a burglar.

The store is in a outdoor plaza, so maybe like 40 stores linked together.

If there are 40 stores, and 39 of them don't have an NRA sticker, and 1 does.. I'd probably AVOID the NRA stickered one, wouldn't you? Chances are higher that any one of the 39 others aren't armed, and the 1 with the NRA sticker is...

I remember reading a gun rag that said, cars with NRA stickers get car-jacked the least. I can see why... While most car owners probably aren't armed, the ones with the "NRA for Life" probably is... Criminals are stupid, yes, but they probably value their life.

I use to put up shot-up-targets on my back door, and gave my friends some to stick on their window while they were on vacation. Great deterrents... With thousands of places to rob, why pick the one in which the owner might be armed?
 
While most robbers may be "opportunists" and probablt just as scared as the clerk that they re robbing, there are always those criminals who have no fear or no concern for life who will go into a store with guns drawn and not think twice about shooting the clerk or even customers. Some will even shoot up the place after getting the money or whatever they wind up stealing. Those are the scary ones and IMHO, that would be sufficient reason to not post anything that says something like "I have a gun so don't try me".

I've been in a couple of mini-mart stores where the clerk is inside a bullet-proof cage with a steel pass-thru drawer for taking the money. One place even had a pistol in full view right next to the cashier. Another had a gun port right below the counter.
 
Then there's the post about the bad guy who tried to rob a gun store with a knife ... If they were rocket scientists they'd work for NASA.
 
I went there last night after dinner.

A shooting would have sucked the hours I was there. Wayyyyy too crowded.

Also way too many witnesses for the BGs. What hours were their neighbors robbed (burgled?) and which stores were they? [no names]

They can pry my tapioca almond snow bubble from my cold dead paws!!!!

i would think that there is a better chance of those kind of people robbing banks during the day than a regular store but sometimes you just never know.

George S., if someone is serious enough to just walk into a store and start shooting, then no matter of training, no matter or stickers or none, nothing will deter them. In those instances you can only hope that it is not your store it happens in. But the majority of robberies are not like this. And there is no way to be safe from EVERY circumstance.
