Well I went to a few stores here this morning, and here is what is available in what I am looking for:

Bushmaster m4, handle top, $769 (LEO price)

Bushmaster m4, flat top with screw on handle, $899

Rock River m4, Aimpoint CompML2 mounted on flat top, tango down front vertical grip, quad rail handguard, tangodown railcovers, nylon two point slint, rear ghost ring iron site. $1099 (btw, this gun is used, very few scratches).

What do you think of these prices? I was originally looking for the bushmaster M4, with flat top and screw on handle for the LEO price, and was told the $899 was not too much more than the LEO price on that gun.

What about the rock river? Decent price considering the optics on it?

Both of the new rifles seem to be in about the same range as a new rifle here. Definitely not any special price; but not out of line either.

Depending on how "used' the Rock River is, that is probably the best value. Whose quad rail and rear sight is on it? That will make a difference in the value; but you are probably looking at $1,600 or more to build the same package new. I'd ask if they have an idea of the round count (or look at the bolt face and that will give you a pretty good idea - all the park on the bolt face will be worn off by around 5k rounds). If there is still a lot of park on the bolt face, then it hasn't been fired much at all or has a new bolt.

However due to the modular nature of the AR15 and how well it wears, you could have quite a bit of use on that RRA and even some things wrong with it and still come out ahead on money. Whose rail and sight can make a several hundred dollar difference in the value though.

I'm not sure who made the quad rail, it maybe was Charlie Industries or something to that effect. It felt pretty solid actually.

I could always get a Rock River Entry tactical M4 for $899 here locally.

so next question...RRA or Bushmaster?

Either or.

They're both quality makers. Each has a slightly different lineup, so pick the one with the rifle you want, or the one with the price you want.

Seriously: RRA, Armalte, Colt, Bushmaster...those are the big four in the industry right now. Just pick one and go. They're all at the same point on the quality scale.
