I used to say that I am not a fan of Smith and Wessons; I am exlcusively a Ruger guy. But today I realized that I don't dislike Smiths; I dislike NEW Smiths. I saw this 27-2 today and after handling it I had to have it. It locks up like a tank and I do like the pinned bbl and recessed cylinders.

How can I find out when it was made?

S&W keeps records specific to when a gun was shipped from the factory instead of when it was made. The only way to find the exact ship date is to obtain a factory letter from S&W ($50.00.)

If you want to give the serial number I can tell you the approximate year it was shipped. That's iffy as the factory letters often show a gun was shipped much earlier or later than others in that same serial number range. You can X-out the last few digits of the serial number if you choose.

Nice looking 3.5" model 27-2 you have. Makes me want to shoot mine!

According to the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson, N20000s date from 1974 - 1977.
Because yours is N21xxxx, I'd guess 1974-75.
