How do you age your brass?

Aged antique forgery is usually done with liver of sulphur. Liver of sulphur will "age" most metals.

I don't.
I like to keep mine shiny and clean.
I don't artificially age the steel, either.
I like to keep mine looking new, or at least, well cared for.

I do understand the desire to have it look old.
I don't share that desire, but I understand it.

remove lacquer protectent with acetone rub or fine steel wool.

suspend brass part over ammonia in a sealed jar for an hour or two. the fumes alone will age the piece nicely.

I am going to have to try with ammonia tomorrow.

I plan to take the horn with me to the Shot Show and display it with Trinidad State's booth. If anyone is interested in seeing it, stop by.

ETA on April 30, 2014: Horn was sold by the school foundation at a silent auction for $225. It was among three objects that generated a lot of interest as reflected by the bids (15 bids).
