Good afternoon all,
I have an SP101 that I want to start carrying, but I am not sure which carry method would be best. It is the 2.25" version in stainless, and I absolutely love this gun. I have a CrossBreed IWB, and Uncle Mikes Sidekick, and they both work, except when I set down. The grip seperates from my body, printing badly. I have thought about an OWB pancake holster, but have never used one. Do not want a paddle holster. Have looked at SmartCarry, looks promising but slow. Please post how you carry yours, and what seems to work the best. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks.

I really like 3:30 IWB, but if I am not doing a lot of sitting I will sometimes carry at 4:00. IWB with a good holster has always worked well for me. I reall like the Blade Tech holsters.

I carried my SP101 to the gunshop to trade it for a S&W model 60.

The SP101 was really bulky for pocket carry, it was much nicer in the waistband, which is why I sold it. If I'm gonna pack in my waistband I'll take a 6 shooter, thank you :)

Carry sp101

It depends if I'm going to be driving or not. If I'm walking I wear mine tucked at the waist in the natural crease between my right thigh and my nethers. A loose shirt conceals the grip. If I'm driving I wear it at my waist on my right side again with a shirt over it. If you do this make sure you can easily draw with the seatbelt on (not with the gun loaded:) Hope it helps. BTW I use a simple nylon (?) holster made by gunmate. Cheap but works for me.

I have a Bianchi pancake-ish OWB holster, and the 3 1/16" bbl version. I carry it mostly around the house, or during colder weather. It's wearing Hogue rubber grips now, so it doesn't conceal as well as pictured.

Hi. I have an AKJ concealco iwb. It's great, an interesting design and very adjustable. I also have a cheapo uncle mikes shoulder rig. I bought it to see if I like that form of carry and I do. One day I'll get a better one but for now it is very good especially for the winter.

ruger sp101

There is a link posted in this forum or glocktalk with a short video on pocket carry. The author is a renowned authority on handguns (sorry don't have the name) and his gun of choice is the Ruger. I would think it would be a pretty heavy gun for pocket carry but might have some merit if the experts swear by it.

The SP101 is heavy but it fits my pocket perfectly in khakis and I'm not a big guy (6'2" 175lbs). I'm used to carrying cellphone, etc. in my pocket anyway so the gun feels just fine.

A Don Hume JIT belt holster, but you need a good belt.

A Bianchi IWB (#6). This is just a light suede holster, nothing fancy. Easy on and off. With an untucked shirt or sweatshirt to cover it works great.

I use a Desantis thumb break holster..strong side..but I put it between my belt and pants..it really snugs the gun to my side.I'm a fat guy and IWB has never worked for me..but this method seems to be the best of both worlds.I use the same method for all my CCW's.

+1 to eagle45.

Its a bit two heavy for pocket carry, but great in JIT or beltslide type holster for me. But, as noted a good belt is mandatory!

I have one called a "SOB" (small of back) I think it is a Kramer or Galco. It rides horizontally on the belt in the back and is really comfy but not good for vehicle carry. Really great for hiking though. It has a adjustable tension screw.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I will look into them, and make a decision. I like the between the belt and pants idea, as I am a large man as well. Thanks all.

I borrowed a friend's .357 SP101 and carried it around for a good 4 hours today and I must say, I didn't think it was that heavy in pocket carry. Of course, I usually carry a whole lot in my pockets and including a 4" barreled autoloader, cell phone, wallet, change, and Bible if cargo pockets allow.

However, I think that the sp101 was fine just in my pocket with no holster or anything. I am a fat guy though, and I was able to have the gun print less and I wear "comfortable" fitting jeans. If you are used to a much lighter revolver, I can see how this could get old... or if you do manually labor all day and have it banging around in your pocket all day.

Unfortunately, I have a white collar job and I sit on the phones and get yelled at all day (Customer Service!).

After my post about business casual, I might have to pick up one of these sweet revolvers.

When I carried mine it was initially in a Jim Burke (outa TX) rig but wanted another - then found he had passed.

I got Kevin of K&D to make me one very similar and this is it. Cant is nicely generous which I like a lot - tho here (sorry not a very good pic) exaggerated because I had arm raised taking the pic. The rig was still new here too so the ''wings'' had not pulled back as they do over time - making it even better.

Just me, but I even found the Smith 640 too heavy (but doable) for comfortable, all day pocket carry. I prefer a "pancake" style holster for concealed, belt carry. If you are sitting for the most part, it's hard to beat a cross-draw for comfort and easy (quick) access.
