How do you guys do a 2 handed grip on a revolver?

I just honestly haven't shot my wheelguns a lot. I'm a 1911 guy mostly myself. But I do so love my Colt Dick Special and my '68 Colt Official Police. Oh yeah, love my dad's '66 Python!

But anyway, I use a standard both thumbs forward not too high grip on my autoloaders. I use virtually the same grip on my Glock too so to keep them similar I don't ride the thumb saftey on my 1911's. I taught myself to shoot using just internet study and copies of the Army Marksmanship guide and Marine M9 manual that mostly has the same stuff in it. I'm pretty decent with my autoloaders after 5 years of practice and I want to get into some competition so I can really get better.

When it comes to revolvers though, I'm not sure how to grip them. :uhoh: If I use the same kind of grip it just feels awkward because of the obvious grip differences between "plow" style revolvers and autoloaders. I guess maybe it is my off-hand that feels awkward? I don't know...maybe I just need to pull the Official Police out of the safe more than once in a blue moon and get some real trigger time behind it? What do you guys suggest?

I find it varies by the type of revolvers. I own 4 revolvers and recoil and muzzle flip is different for each one. I shoot my sp101 the most and for that I use my off hand (left) to grip my hand just distal to the wrist. The thumb perpendicular to the wrist and the web at about a 45 degree angle to the holding hand. The off hand index finger wraps around at the base of the pinkey. I hope that made sense. That's what works for me with my hands, try different things and throw some lead downrange and you'll find the best position for you.

I hold the revolver with my strong hand and use the off hand to rotate the cylinder. . .oh wait, that was just once while firing an RG pot metal special back in the day.

Who uses two hands anyways?

After the strong hand has its grip I wrap weak hand such that fingers encase strong hand fingers and then do an ''X'' lock of the thumbs.

Strong hand thumb points slightly down and weak hand thumb crosses it, such that it bears down on the strong hand thumb knuckle.

End result is a firm controlling grip.

If shooting strong hand only, the grip of that hand is same - whether solo or with other hand added. Consistency is everything.

Ooooh that feels quite nice. Funny thing is I was having trouble envisioning exactly what you said. So I pulled out the Official Police, verified it was empty and then assumed a "combat" grip. Then I realized I made an X with my thumbs the way you described and I suddenly realized what you meant. You are right, feels very firm and comfortable. I will know tomorrow when I go shooting how controllable it is. Thanks!
