How do you regularly clean your bolt action rifle?

It depends on when I plan on shooting it next . . .

If I think it's gonna sit in the safe for 3-4 months - a year then I clean it immediately after shooting it regardless of how many rounds I've shot.

If I'm planning on shooting it again next week or the week after then I don't clean it. (my typical session with a bolt rifle is about 20-30 rounds though . . .I'm sure other people shoot alot more). The hard one for me is when I know I'm going to shoot it again but think it might be a month . . .then I lean towards cleaning it but I fight the urge as much as possible.

I do wipe it down with an oil rag after every session though.

Just my .02

Have a good one,
Dave

7mm Mauser Zastava

Among other bolt actions I own a 7mm Zastava, whcih has double trigger. I really like the rifle, however, I only clean its barrel and bolth without dismantiling it. I am not what more I could do with this 1957 beauty.

I aggree with Zak(kind of). On the USMC shooting team we cleand our rifles 5-10 min after a match (50-100rds)and called it a day...wiped down the bolt, re-lub and run a bore snake 3 times that was it..shot atlest 2000 rounds a season (I dont have my data book here)

That year (03) the USMC won nationals

I'm still shooting a lot of surplus corrosive ammo through my centerfire guns, so I clean pretty carefully. I'll first send a patch soaked in ammonia containing windex down the barrel and wipe the bolt down with the same. Then hoppes 9 and dry patches, alternating as needed, till the barrel is as clean as can be, then the bolt is cleaned well too. Then everything is oiled well after it's clean to avoid rust.

I also shoot a lot of blackpowder guns, those are a mess to clean but pretty easy too...hot water, then oil...
