How hard to get CCW permit in Los Angeles County these days?

I'm getting conflicting opinions on this. Some say you virtually can't get a concealed carry permit in LA County no matter how reasonable the request, some say it's possible. Does anybody know the real story?

I'm a real estate broker who goes back & forth between a Beverly Hills and other similar areas and in South Central Los Angeles and Compton. I'll literally drive my Benz from Beverly Hills into the hood because I have to show a client some investment property. Seems like we'd be a target and there has been some scary moments that fortunately have not escalated.

Do I stand a chance of getting a CCW? Thanks.

Since you're working in real estate here, I assume you've met and dealt with some pretty connected people...work your contacts. You'll never get one through normal channels.

Thanks for the quick tips. I just realized that somebody else created a thread on this subject of getting a CCW in LA, and he was denied.

I don't want to apply if I'm just going to get denied. I'm wondering if a denial now could prejudice my possible later request when the political climate on CCW becomes a little more favorable.

It's kind of strange -- and no other realtor does this --- but I actually work with high-end clients and could show a $3 million home in the morning in Beverly Hills then that afternoon I take another client on my Benz in Compton (land of gangbangers) to look at an apartment building. It wouldn't be unreasonable for me to hire an armed security guard in that case. But that's a hassle and I'd prefer just to have a CCW and do what I'm currently doing, and assure the safety of myself and my clients.

You might want to buy a '72 Monte Carlo with no wheel covers for some of your runs.:D

Yeah, it's been suggested that I get a beat-up car to do the 'hood.

However, my problem is that I have to make runs directly from the high-end neighborhood to the 'hood on some days.

And people might think it's strange, but there are some clients from high-end areas that are landlords in the 'hood. So I have to drive them down.

I won't carry if it's not legal.

I do have some nice Fox Labs pepper spray with at least a 15 foot range. I have 4-ouncers, but I sometimes bring the 1-pounder which is almost the size of a small fire extinguisher. Anybody who wants to do harm will likely come within range; they won't likely fire away at a distance right off the bat. I'll need to use the element of surprise with the spray to be effective with it. Hopefully that should do it even with a group of surprised thugs.

And if for whatever reason that defense falls, it's all on me with my unarmed skills. I've got some skills. And if that's not enough, I guess if I have to die, I'll go down fighting and that's just the way it is. That's my way of thinking. Sure would be nice to have a CCW though.

Maybe that and a Taser could get you by. Spice 'em up then fry 'em. :p
