How have firearms affected your life?

The only negative way firearms have affected me has to do with my wallet :neener:

It has shown me who my true friends are. It has empowered me to protect myself and my loved ones. It has rekindled my relationship with my father. It gives me something to spend my money on which actually retains most of it's value.

When handling my firearms (particularly my 1911s) it gives me a sense of pride and the feeling that I'm a part of something bigger. I think about how many lives have been effected by the different firearms, how many have been saved, how many have been lost. It's indescribable. It makes me feel alive. It makes me feel thankful that I'm here.

I don`t volunteer to people that I have guns. If the subject comes up I listen. I tend to shy away from anti-gun folk. Some family know that I have guns.

LIBs, what nut jobs. One LIB family member told me that when the crap hits the fan, I am coming to your house because you have guns! I laughed.

Lose trust intially until people realize I'm licensed, in which case I become the first person they trust(and run to for help).

From my personal point of view, owning firearms and moreso having a CHL and carrying, has taught me personal responsibility. I like most of the rest of the people on this board, and unlike most of the liberals in this world(most not all), I answer for the things that I do, good or bad.

No change.

I grew up with guns around, so any impact they have on my life has been from the git-go. I was raised to be respectful of others and protect me and mine. Nobody else seems to mind being treated decent.

Negatives:
-people end up fearing me
-people lose trust in me
-people categorize me

It sounds like you're letting negative people and stereotypes get you down--it's hard not to sometimes. The media has programmed non-gun people to be anti's by default. Cheer up--go hang out with some fellow gun nuts.

Look at it like this--I've been in anti-land my whole life and eventually found and formed relationships with other gun nuts of all kinds anyway. YOU are in the storied land of milk and honey with more class III's and pick-up's per capita that ANYWHERE else in the U.S.!!!
