New Hampshire: Pistol/Revolver License (covers the concealment issue including vehicles, open carry is legal).

-No exception for loaded long guns/shotguns.

-A weapon is concealed within a vehicle even if it is up on the dash in PLAIN VIEW, or on the seat, etc. in NH. The nature of it being in the "shell" of the vehicle defines concealment, NOT whether it is visible or not to the officer. Otherwise, mags must be seperated from the sidearm and UNLOADED. The RSA (159:4) states "A loaded pistol or revolver shall include any pistol or revolver with a magazine, cylinder, chamber, or clip in which there are loaded cartridges". Better just to get the pistol/revolver license to CYA.
There is a ton of questioning and controversy about the magazines needing to be seperate from the firearm, but unfortunately it isn't spelled out that clearly in the RSA. Just by reading the language of the RSA you can see that it's a headscratcher.....thus we enter our favorite place to be....attorney land

I probably should have also asked what hoops you have to jump through, and how much thinner your wallet is after you get your permit. Oh, and how long it actually takes.

For Michigan, an NRA approved CPL class is required. It's about an 8 hour class; roughly $130 depending on the instructor. Then you submit an application (and fingerprints) to the state along with $105 and wait a couple months. Ugh.

Whilst the commonly used term in WA is CPL (Concealed Pistol License), the actual wording on the license is: License to Carry Concealed Pistol, so I guess it should be LCCP but CPL rolls off the tongue much easier! Oh, & there's no testing required here, we're a shall-issue state & you just apply at your local LE office, get finger printed, pay the fee ($50 initial, $35 renewal [5yrs] from memory) & the license will be mailed to you after the background check has cleared you.....usually 2-3 weeks.

In Alabama you fill out a 1 page application, take it to the sheriff's office and wait two or three minutes for a background check. Then pay 10 dollars (varies by county), and you have a pistol permit.

No classes, and it has to be renewed every year

It's not too bad, but I would still prefer an AZ., AK., and VT. style approach to the process.
