To be able to shoot without making someone angry? I want to buy land out of city limits, so that I can enjoy things like shooting more frequently. I know it would be best to find a place with as much distance from anyone else as possible but I don't know how easily that can be done and still have a reasonable commute to work.

Mostly I shoot clays with a 12 gauge and plink with a .22 but I will probably end up with some rifles and handguns. I would love to have a couple friends come and blast clays for a few hours whenever I could afford shells. Owning 20+ acres with neighboring properties being of similar size or larger do you think someone would become angry at my gunfire? Does it really matter if they don't like it?

I'm trying to decide how the "I was here first" mentality would take play. I know I would tell someone where to shove it if they moved near to me and then complained about my noisy hobbies.

What is everyone's take?

It really depends on your neighbors. Find a place where other people shoot on their land, and you'll be in good shape.

Shooting land

I agree with Ian. The only thing I would add is if are thinking about high powered rifles or handguns, think about a natural backstop or if there is an area suited for a man made one.

Definitely consider putting in a backstop on any property you decide to go with. Also check around to see if any nearby neighbors have livestock in the vicinity. Some of these folks may object to the noise bothering their animals.
