How much time to reload 1000 rounds?

Since you're new to reloading you should absolutely start off with a single stage press and forget about 300 rounds in an hour until you get the basics down. I've been reloading for 28 years and I still use a single stage press. I make between 25-50 rounds per session and over the years have accumulated all the ammo I need. By the way I live Downriver, if you need any help with reloading PM me.
I was going to go with a Lee Classic Turret, and take out the indexing so that I can run it single stage for now.

I started with the LCT and am still using it. I am a low volume shooter so it does everything I need. It is a low cost way to start and if you decide you want to upgrade later you won't have a lot invested in it and get most of your money back reselling it if thats what you want or keep it to use for small amounts or load work ups.

That is a good route to follow.

I looked at going that way, but a Hornady LNL AP fell into my lap at a cost I couldn't pass up.

I also used it as a Single Stage while learning, by only installing one die to run a batch of cases through. When I felt comfortable, I added a second die to add expanding to resizing...I was hand priming off the press. As my comfort zone expanded, I added the other three dies (powder drop, seating, crimping) to the mix.

What was nice about the LNL's quick change die/bushing system was that I could just feed sized, primed, and expanded cases (after removing the dies)into the seating die to learn about seating depth. I then repeated the process, with just the crimping die installed, to learn how much crimp to apply.

Once I was comfortable, I could set up all the dies and load 100 rounds, of 9mm, in about 20 minutes...filling the powder measure and confirming consistent drop takes the most time

By all means, shop around (Midway, Grafs, FSReloading, etc) but BE SURE to check out Kempf's Gun Shop. Their kit built around the Lee Classic Turret INCLUDES dies and does not make you take anything you don't need or will want to trade off (except the ammo boxes, which are negligible cost and useful in any event).

I don't calculate the savings, nor do I care about the savings.

I reload for the following reasons:

- I can make more accurate rounds than I can purchase
- I can make more consistently performing rounds than I can purchase
- I can make, a more diverse range of rounds than I can purchase. (40gr -77g .223 or 5.56 for example)
- I learn a ton about ballistics in addition to the reloading process
- I shoot better because my rounds are better
- I shoot more because of the experimentation involved with developing a load
- I shoot more because it is a better experience using consistent high performing rounds
- I chronograph my loads so I understand completely their ballistic performance
- I know I am shooting better than 99.9% of the folks on the range except for the hard core bench guys.

Savings? Heck, I don't care about aspect of it although I'm sure I'm saving money and shooting better rounds.
