Specifically the Springfield GI. Can anyone layout for me the cost of parts/labor for the following:

Novak low mount sights.
Quality spurless hammer
Quality Trigger
Beaver tail sear
Lowering the ejection port

how much do you think this would cost for each one of these modifications? Do you think it would be cheaper to just save a little more for a model with these already there?

It will be cheaper to save your money and get a Loaded model if that is what you want.

The advantage of modifying a GI-45 is you get exactly what you want, and nothing you do not. If the supplemental slide serrations on the Loaded do not bother you, buy the Loaded instead. You will come out ahead of the game, especially if you pay for someone else's labor.

having never modified a 1911 i cant tell you how much it would cost - I have owned two different 1911 pistols from springfield and found them both to be great shooters - both of mine were the "loaded" models that came with all the nice little extras - i sold one of them a few years ago and just recently bought my second - i wish now I had gotten into the 1911's long ago - i did alot of looking before i bought and it was only a couple hundred more to buy a used "loaded" model compared to springfields mil-spec guns - Personally i would just go that way - alot less hassel and you know that the work is done right on it - Of course if you want to save a little longer a kimber really isn't that much more then the springer - in fact after getting used to my springer im now in the process of saving to buy a kimber - thats just my 2cents on it.

Yost can do everything plus for $1150. There are lots of other very good smiths without the name recognition that could do the work for up to 40% less.

I personally do not understand the factory semi custom pistols. If you want a custom gun get a custom gun. Being able to pick the exact parts that you want, not the ones Springfield picked, has huge value to me. For many people the ease of ordering from the factory is king.

If being able to choose the extact parts and features is not paramount then go with the factory loaded config.

I sent my G.I. to Deezulsmoke.

I sent a G.I. to a member here who is a 'smith. The pistol cost around $500, I bought the parts myself to ensure I got exactly what I wanted (if I was mistaken in ordering, I could return them to Brownells. Definately not implying dishonesty to a 'smith.) and that ran me about two hundred. Hammer, sear, hammer strut, disconnector, extractor, checkered MSH, beavertail grip safety, front and rear sights. Labor is going to run about $700, including checkering the front strap and refinishing the slide and frame.

Total cost will be about $1,400, but I'll have exactly what I want with high quality parts done by a 'smith who came with good recommendations. The pistol is due back here in about another month or so, I'm beginning to plan an extended range trip!

Exactly. That is what I am talking about. You got exactly what you wanted in a pistol. That is the spirt behind any custom gun. You could have gotten a Colt XSE or Springer loaded config but it would not have your desired setup.

I have a Norinco that I am going to send off when the funds become available.
