How much would you pay for new 7.62 NATO ammo?

Greetings all. Let's say a manufacturer started offering 7.62 NATO-spec, boxer-primed ammo in sealed battle packs of two hundred. How much would you pay for it considering the current lack of 7.62 surplus?

Maybe Prvi Partizan or Aguila could be convinced that there is a big market for this ammunition in the US. If it was of good quality and reasonably priced they could sell it by the truck load I think. Any thoughts?

I think I would pay up to about 35 cents a round, past that and I might as well buy the commercial stuff which you can usually get for just under 50 cents a round.

I bought out all the remaining South African yesterday at my local gunshop for 25 cents a round (1 case worth), but I did leave 1 battle pack for those that want it.

I have 8260 rounds of South African surplus here at the house for my M1A that I'm going to sit on for a while.

Don't look for anyone to produce battle packs of 7.62 NATO. What is in country will probably be it for a long long time. One of the first things we will be gifted with after the hand over of power in DC, is a ban on mil surp ammo being imported.
I don't think its any one's business how much ammo folks have tucked away. Bad juju to put your info on the street.

I've got around 7-8k of South African .308 saved up.

I'm going to fire up the Dillon 550B in the meantime.

But to answer your question, I'd say 30-40 cents per round is my max. I would still reload for the majority of my "plinking" but I would buy the other ammo for storage (e.g. the South African, which is sealed in waterproof battlepacks). I would not use it for plinking uinless it got to 20 cents or below per round.

Oops! Forgot to say max $$ per round. For high quality consistant ammo that doesn't jam, but that has sealed primer and neck, I'd pay up to 45 cents a round.

I'm not worried about letting it be known how much ammo I have. As soon as I take care of a few finances, I'll start putting away a but load of 5.56 for my newly bought Stag AR.

Hey Snake. Wasn't that long ago SA was 147.00 per 980 was it? I don't know about you, but I'm saving my berdan cases. It can't be that much more difficult to reload them from what I've seen over on surplusrifle.

Ahh, the good ole' days. Wasn't that long ago I was buying LC XM80 for $190, I'm glad I saved a bunch of that stuff. Well, I've never tried Wolf or Silver Bear but it can be had in the 18-24 cent range. I might give it a "shot". Pun intended.

Somebody else can buy milsurp ammo. I have a Dillon 550, all sorts of 7.62x51 headstamped Lapua brass, lots of IMR4895 powder, primers, and bullets. That's assuming the couple thousand handloaded rounds I've already got squirreled away need to be replenished.

The good old days, hell, I remember when Port (probably the finest, cleanest, most accurate surplus 7.62) was $135 for 1K

i remember a LOT of deals i knew then were SCREAMING HOT but I couldn't afford most of them.

being a college kid made much of that prohbitive.

what I was able to buy then got stolen last year in a smash in your door, kick the cat, dump out your drawers kind of burglary. =(

the only thing left I have from those years is a couple of ar15 20 round magazines, a single 25 rnd 10/22 mag, a box of 223, and a lot of memories.

now that i have the money, I can't replace any of it due to laws. so, I know how it feels to think about the "good old days".

Like jagdpanzer347 I'm saving my berdan cases. I found inexpensive hydraulic decapper plans in the internet and once I construct one and make sure it works I'm going to have my range see if they can locate some berdan primers. I've reloaded .308 with Winchester brass, but my FAL chews up about 20% ot the cases too badly to reuse. I haven't concentrated on reloading as cheaply as possible, depending on how many reloads I get from my brass I'd say I'm at .30 each and that's about what I'd pay per round.
