How often do you clean your marlin model 60?

Just got a model 60 and curious to see how often most owners take it down for a good cleaning. The manual recommends every 250 rounds, ive got about 300 through it so far with no jams or misfires.

Does the gun start to jam once it gets dirty?

I run a couple of light oil pathes and a dry patch through the bore after every session--- I also break it down and wipe with a gun cloth and q-tips after extended sessions...

I will say some ammo (LRN) takes a little more care, but all in all my Marlin 60 seems to not care too much about cleaning... I am just anal about cleaning my guns.

In squirrel season though, I usually foul the barrel with 10-20 rounds and leave it-- I just clean the outside and q-tip what I can with the bolt to the rear...

I clean mine every time I take it out as its pretty easy to go through quite a bit of .22 ammunition and it does get dirty fast. Even with that, sometimes I'll get a jam where the round didn't go into the chamber straight and the bolt crushes it. I would recommend lubing the bolt and receiver pretty thoroughly. After a few thousand rounds you'll see that the bolt will take it's toll on the inside receiver walls, I use grease in that area, but I thin it with a little oil in the winter. Also, be sure to scrape out under the extractor hooks on the bolt face as a lot of crud tends to cake up in there and could cause problems down the road. Enjoy your new rifle!

I've shot about 500 rounds through mine but it will start to jam up when it gets over 300 or 400. Ussually a spray of CLP and a wipe with the boresnake will fix it up.

i will go one to two bricks of ammo usually before i clean mine. Had no problems yet.

mine went 20 years without being stripped for cleaning. Seems no worse for wear.

The 60 is easy to break down and clean. With a few repetitions it takes about 45 seconds, to get the action and bolt out. Drop in a plastic bottle swish with an ounce or two of Hoppe's, a small brush for the nooks and crannies and bolt. It's good to have an extra recoil spring waiting for the time when you bend or break one. I've been having feed problems with mine so I've had it apart frequently

I clean it when it starts jamming....every few thousand rounds of the cheapest ammo I can find......

But....you need to clean these extra good though..... they have lots of places for gunk to hide and cause problems....

I must be anal; I clean my 1968 Mod 60 after each range session regardless of how many rounds I put through it.

.22s are different from center fires in how often they need to be cleaned. As a general rule of thumb, I only clean a .22 when the accuracy falls off or it has feeding problems.

I do wipe all exterior surfaces with an oily rag after I shoot though.

I'd say well oiled. I also use grease where the bolt runs inside the receiver.

Oh, you have to clean them? Had mine since 1982 and I have been so busy that I just have not gotten around to it.

Excess oil attracts crud. Lightly oil or use a dry lube.

+1, I have only cleaned mine once in 3 years

clean it real good the first time you get it, it will have all kinds of metal shavings in it. then run a brick of hi velocity, copper washed ammo through it; NOTREMINGTON!!!! This would be the equivalent of washing a pig off, with muddy water.
After that, clean again real good, should function and eat up anything you like after that.

If not all that, then clean in any month that begins with the letter 'R'.
A 60 can take it...
