Armed robber whacked with Christmas paper

----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------

A storekeeper armed with a roll of Christmas wrapping paper took on a
thief with a gun and won.

The robber, armed with a black 9mm handgun, entered the grocery store
near 132nd Street and 80th Avenue in Surrey on Saturday and demanded
the 28-year-old clerk hand over the cash.

"The clerk, having been robbed before, started yelling for help from
her family while trying to give the suspect what he wanted," an RCMP
officer said.

The storeowner heard his daughter's cries for help and ran
downstairs, grabbing the first thing he could find -- the thick roll
of Christmas wrapping paper.

The gunman had by now snatched a roll of change and was heading for
the door.

But dad caught up with him and swung the roll of paper across his
face.

"The impact caused the suspect to drop the money and at the same
time, the magazine fell out of his gun," the officer said.

The startled thief fled in a dark-coloured, possibly burgundy, older
model Dodge Caravan.

He may have suffered a bloody lip.

Let's see... A man with a gun has just taken a roll of change, worth $10 at most. He's on his way out the door. What do you do?
1. Shoot him... Oh wait, you don't have a gun
2. Call the Po-Po
3. Just let him go, and laugh
4. Whack him upside the head with a roll of paper, and hope he doesn't turn around and shoot you or your daughter.

This guy is very lucky. Maybe they can get some prints off the magazine.

I lived a few blocks from there as a child, went to school with the oldest daughter, and have been to that store many times. I am glad to hear no one was hurt.

The storeowner was a lucky

Lucky bugger. Glad he and his family are OK.

Buy that man a beer!

That storekeeper has sand! Even without being on an even basis, he resisted and refused to be a victim.

Yes, he might have been shot. Then he would be a man who chose to be a man on his feet rather than a victim on his knees.

Another thread asked for a definition of "sheeple". This guy is not.

As police officers have said for years, the best defense against injury is to put up no defense -- give them what they want, or run. This may not be "macho," but it can keep you alive.

Guns Don't Die -- People Do p. 125

Don't people realize that a roll of paper is more likely to be taken away by the criminal and used against you?

Black guns are way more deadly, of course

They also described the car he used too. I think they included a description of the gun in case someone reading the story had information for the police.... although they should have given a description of the criminal if that was their idea.

Jeez, thanks for posting that story ...

Could someone please lock this thread down now before the Canadian federal government gets wind of it. They'll be banning Christmas wrapping paper next ...

This report has to be fiction. It says the robber had a gun, and of course he couldn't have, since Canada has banned them.

[blissninny] See? we don't NEED guns to defend ourselves! Guns are bad. Specially those nasty black ones! [/blissninny]

Canada may have stricter laws regarding handguns and most semi auto longarms than most states but it's far from gun free, there are 7 million guns amongst Canada's 10 million households. Street guns are readily available as well should you want one.

A LOT more than 7 million, Youngster; back in 1975, when Trudeau was considering a national registration scheme (which led to the old FAC system), they estimated that there were a MINIMUM of 6 million guns in Canada, a theoretical upper limit of somewhere around 21 million, and a "most likely true number" of somewhere around 14 million. When you add on 28 years of importation (at a rate of around 250,000 per year), today there are a MINIMUM of somewhere between 11 and 13 million guns in Canada, and the true number could be as high as 28 million. The only reason the Liberals are now saying "7 million" is because that's how many guns in Canada are REGISTERED, and they have to keep up this fiction that their pet program is working.

Reminds me of a report on the local radio about a year ago, about a robbery at a local convenience store.

The robber was described as "White male, wearing blue jeans, a leather jacket, and a motorcycle helmet".
