How should I answer questions #3 and #8 on form 5320.20?

I would appreciate some help in answering questions #3 and #8 on form 5320.20

I know that I have to be approved before transporting a machinegun across state lines permanently, but I don’t know what the wait time is for the ATF response. So what dates do I put in for the dates in transit to be permanently relocated in thequestion below?

3. Dates firearm(s) will be away from original location, if to be returned to that location, (or dates in transit, if to be permanently relocated.)

From (month, day, year) To (month, day year)


In question # 8 Mode of Transportation, I am not going to use a common or contract carrier, instead I’ll use my own personal vehicle. What should I answer, if anything, here?

They took about 5 weeks to return my forms. You can technically go for a full year on the dates. I would extend it greatly past your expected time frame.

I also just put " Personal motor vehicle" if you are driving or if flying add (commercial airline) and never had any get kicked back.
