How should I deal with this?

Usually I am out running errands or going to appointments that take me all over town. Whenever one of these trips takes me close to a range and time allows I like to stop in.

Usually I have a .45 as my truck gun, a makarov, VZOR 70, and now a .38 snubbie or any combination of these on my person.

It is easy for me to conceal up to 3 guns for short periods of time and since I don't carry a range bag, ammo or shooting glasses with me (no trunk)
I tuck the pistols into their respective holsters and walk into the range.

This is how it usually goes down:

I walk up ask for a lane, a box of 45acp. .32acp, .38 special (no one carries 9x18 so I have to make due with my 4 loaded mags) also glasses and hearing protection.

After paying, I begin to walk out the door toward the pistol range and they invariably stop me and ask "hey, where are your guns?" or don't you need
your guns?"

The law is fuzzy on declaring that you have a concealed weapon on your person so I usually say "Yeah, got em thanks" and hope for the best.

These folks who are around guns 24/7 have concealed carry classes and are shooters themselves act freaked out whenever I show up with no visible firearms.

I would imagine they would be more freaked out if I walked in with a pistol in each hand....

When I had a sedan there was storage for a range bag and goodies
but a range bag in a truck is an invitation for goblins to smash and grab.

Any suggestions? Or should the range folks just get over it?

Carry a brief case. It works when seeing clients and stops those embarrasing questions at the range.

If you have a CHL, then I see no problem with what you do. You don't have to declare a concealed handgun to anyone but a LEO. If they don't have the appropriate sign posted, you are well within your rights to carry onto their range.

I would be more concerned with a range that had a problem with that.

You won't have that problem if...

You go to The Bullet Hole, which is off 1604 near Potranco Road in the far NW section of SA. They only get riled up about safety issues, which I think is a good thing. I've NEVER had a bad experience there, and quite a number of good ones. The range is excellent, and you can even rent some full autos.

And, no, I don't own any piece of the range. I just like the folks that run it.

You go to The Bullet Hole,

I like them too and that is the first place I was questioned about where my guns were (in front of customers).

I still go there and rent the supressed greasegun whenever I can.

Keep a stack of flattened paper bags in the back of the car, undera seat, etc.
Time to go into the range you whip one out and you have an instant range bag.

Keep some spare ammo under a seat or something. Some ranges have lockers to rent, you might inquire.

What about a soft sided briefcase that will fit under or behind the seat? I'm assuming that your primary CCW piece is on you (and your BUG if you carry one) the others should fit just fine, although I don't know what kind of truck you have, so I can't know just how much space is available in the cab. When it comes time to retire the truck you have now, you could give thought to an extended cab or crew cab.

I am very surprised at that. What you might want to do if that happens again is to wait until you are ready to leave and let the person know - privately - that CHL holders aren't supposed to divulge to ANYONE except a cop that they have a concealed gun. Ask them nicely to relay word of that fact to Vern, and to have him instruct the rest of the employees not to ask.

OTOH, they may ask "where's your gun" because they rent guns (mostly Glocks, under a factory program) for $10 per pop. So it is in their financial interest to ask. Of course, the proper way to ask would be: "Are you interested in renting any of our guns?"

I still go there and rent the supressed greasegun whenever I can.

Try the suppressed MP5 - the cycling of the action is louder than the report of the bullets leaving the muzzle. I'm shooting the greasegun the next time I rent a full auto from them.
