I just read all of IN 35-47 and I'm at a loss. I'm still waiting for my permit and I'd like to go to the range. According to the code, I'm completely stumped how I'm meant to do that. Is it illegal to go to the range before getting my permit? I was expecting to find something in the code to the effect of "if you don't have a permit, have it in a locked container unloaded, etc etc etc" but I couldn't find _anything_.

Does anybody know the answer?

Looks like you will have to find a range that has a resident gunsmith, which would then be a place of repair.

Have you thought about calling the range you want to go to and asking them?

I'm glad I wasn't just crazy or blind. I've found the answer. You're right, Navy. That was the only way before. The IN legislature _just_ passed SB 506 which was signed by the Governor on 5/10/2011 and takes effect 7/1/2011. SB 506 fixes it so you can transport legally so long as the usual conditions are met (unloaded, inaccessible, etc).

This is pretty cool research. It's actually turned me on to a number of other firearms related bills that passed in my state this year. Indiana appears to be making great progress with respect to RKBA. Go Mitch!
