How will Denali National Park in Alaska be affected by the DOI ruling on CCW?

My understanding is that Alaska allows carry without a permit. The Dept of Interior says you can carry in national parks in states that allow CCW permits.

So how would that work in a state like alaska that allows you to carry without a permit?

when i lived in cantwell, people who had subsistance permits from that town were allowed to carry their iron into the park back to kantishna, the end of the road. there is a subsistance hunting area there.

AK doesn't require ccw's, but will issue themto those who want them. Some want them for their reciprocity to other states.

As of when I left the area on September 17th of this year, the NPS still had their signs up saying no loaded firearms in the park. We'll see, I'll more than likely be back in Cantwell in May...

The new DOI ruling does not mention permits at all. Rather, it permits carry in accordance with state law. So if state law permits you to carry w/o a permit, sounds like you're good to go to me. (at least once January rolls around)

if you go beyond caribou ave, or wolverine drive in the northeast corner of old cantwell, you are in the park. if you go the end of the tractor trail that goes to windy creek, you ARE IN the park. this is also a subsistance hunting area, so firearms use is allowed there.

My understanding is carry is allowed in parks located in states that have CC.

"Permits" was used because most morons in the media aren't aware that AK and VT have permitless CC.

Essentially, if you are in compliance with carry in your particular state, the fedpukes recognize it.

I still refuse to enter Denali simply because they herd you around like cattle in there.

Could you elaborate on that? I have always wanted to go there. Can you not drive around in Denali like other national parks and explore on your own?

roger...they put you on a 66 passenger school bus for the ride back to kantishna. there are POV accessable campgrounds and such up until the savage river gaurd shack. [unless you have a bud up there who qualifies to sub-hunt in kantishna.]

That's true, Gunnie. There is subsistence hunting in the area, but considering I keep my residency in Oregon, I have no claim to those rights. All I know is that when I enter the park by the McKinley Village, I always see the no loaded guns, no hunting sign welcoming me to the park. Always makes me think to stop and unload if I happen to be carrying. That mostly depends on if I'm going into the train depot or on into glitter gulch.
