Here is the load data that I use with my HOWA 308 20 inch H/B rifle. 38 grs. IMR-4895. Using Sierra 168 gr. TMK match bullets, with Winchester WLR large primmers. It shoots out to 1000 yards with no problem. At 1000 yards on a 70 degree day with almost no wind I can put all my rounds in the black. I load military and commercial brass the exact same way with almost no difference with results. At 100 yards I get half inch groups with ease. At 600 yards if I am on I can get 2 - 2.5 inch groups when mother nature is kind to me. Does that load data and shot results sound right to my fellow re-loaders ??

You are shooting 2" - 2.5" groups @600 yards? How many rounds are in the group?

I have been shooting 5 rounds per group. That's bench resting the rifle ofcourse.

You are quite right but to me this is the real reason the gun grabbers thinking goes, there are millions more law abidding people with guns than the bad guys. There fore if they can get all the good guys guns then it would only be a short time before the bad guys would be caught and there guns would be off the streets which equals no guns but for big brother and the military. There will always be law breakers but to have to worry about a few thousands verses millions is the trade off. Does that make sense??

I don't follow what your getting at in your last post but your load sure seams to be working! good shooting

What's the size of the largest groups that load shoots at the ranges you speak of? I think you're mentioning only the smallest ones shot which don't represent the accuracy/precision level all shots have. All shots count, don't they?

All the rounds in the 44" diameter black on the standard NRA long range target means they're somewhere between that and zero.

Meanwhile, typical charge weights of IMR4895 with 168's in 308 cases is 42 grains. That (+/- 1 grain) is what Lake City Arsenal put in their 7.62 NATO M852 match ammo with 168's when Remington was operating it.

Not to me, either.

Please explain your reasoning.

That is lower than starting load isn't it. I thought 4895 buns more consistent at high side. 38 grs is about 85% fill.
H4895 is the only powder Hodgdon uses for their reduced rifle loads. They go as low as 60% of max so the slightly lighter load the OP is using is not dangerous. I'm only talking about H4895.

OP uses IMR4895, not H4895, 60% "rule" does not apply to IMR4895! When H4895 loaded low, it won't burn clean. I ran H4895 at 75% and found unburnt powders, won't be consistent if powder not burnt clean.

My mistake, for some reason I thought he used H4895.

What I mean is this, with law after law being enacted against law abiding citizens in order to own a gun of any type with the good guys going along with those laws it's only a matter of time before there are so many laws against us that they will indeed take away our right to own guns and it will be done one new law at a time. This is aimed at the millions of law abiding citizens. Then the criminals with guns that only number in the low thousands will over time be caught , die, destroy there guns or sent to prison and in what ever case it is one less gun in the hands of the American people until the only one's with guns is police and military making our country gun free so they hope .

I admit that I am not Mr. Re-loader of the planet. I simply re-load my brass according to my Hodgdon book. After thirty plus years doing it the way I do it has been safe and the results I can live with. I don't claim to be a world class shooter or a master re-loader with a MA degree in re-loading. Was taught to shoot at age six by my father using a 16 gauge shotgun which I still have and I taught my two children with that very same gun. I come from a Arkansas farming family and all my life guns were and are still are a big part of it. I can hold my own with most other shooters and as a grunt in Viet Nam my shooting experience growing up saved me on many fire fights. I am just a OK shot and happy with how I shoot. At 66 years old now I am not trying to impress anyone with my shooting results or my methods I use for re-loading. It just works well for me. Someone asked me about target size. I will use the old Army target size of 12 X 18 . If at any range you put the bullet in the black then you have a kill. That's what I try to do, just put it in the black. AL

My Milspec loves IMR4895 but at about 4+ grains more with same bullets. Per the IMR site, 41 is the start load. See picture.

Regardless good shooting with your Howa!
